I am Mariana Santos Vieira, and I am the Daughter of Amarina Ribeiro dos Santos Vieira.
My mother came from an extensive family from the State of Rio de Janeiro and was the youngest. Though she lost her mother as a child, she was deeply engaged in our lives. She always took the time to discover our feelings and celebrated our individuality.
A very sharp lady, energetic with a beautiful smile, she taught me how to be self-sufficient, and I wanted to be just like her. She often shared stories of growing up in Brasil and her dreams for our success and happiness in America.
Mother of the community, she would round all the kids up in the neighborhood with her own and drag us to various activities and events.
She always showed her dedication to the community, families in the area, and God.
I lost her when I was 22, and it changed me forever.You never get over the loss of her kind of love.
