The Cooper's Hill cheese rolling race saw contestants come from all over the world and attempt to catch a 3kg wheel of Double Gloucester.

German YouTuber Tom Kopke won the first race of the day for the third year in a row, beating local competitor and Guinness World Record holder Chris Anderson to the finish line.

Anderson's son did win the first children’s race though, so the family will still get their cheese fix this year.

Footage posted by a paraglider shows the moment a plane collided with her canopy above the Austrian alps, forcing her to release the reserve parachute and emergency land.

The paraglider, named Sabrina, said she was uninjured apart from "a few nasty bruises" in her Instagram post.

Salzburg police said the 28-year-old pilot stated he was unable to swerve in time to avoid the collision, and landed safely and uninjured at a nearby airport.

The former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell has been remanded in custody, after he pleaded guilty to embezzling £400,310.65 from the political party.

As part of his plea, he admitted to using the SNP’s money to buy items including a motorhome and luxury goods, and funding part of the purchase of two cars.

Murrell, who is former SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon’s estranged husband, will be sentenced on June 23.

Five amber health alerts have been issued over the bank holiday weekend as the UK braces for what could be its hottest ever day in May.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued amber alerts in the East Midlands, East of England, London, the South East and West Midlands, and yellow alerts in the North West, North East, South West and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Highs of 28C are expected in parts of south east England on Friday before climbing above 30C across swathes of England and Wales over the following days.
