We’re proud to share exciting news from the Health Systems Innovation Lab:
Our Director, Rifat Atun, has been appointed the Julio Frenk Professor of Public Health Leadership at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, effective January 1.
This endowed professorship recognizes Professor Atun’s leadership in advancing health systems innovation and strengthening the connection between research, policy and practice. At the Health Systems Innovation Lab, he leads initiatives that bring together students, researchers, entrepreneurs and global partners to design and scale solutions for complex health systems challenges.
The Julio Frenk Professorship was established in honor of former dean Julio Frenk and celebrates leadership that drives meaningful impact in public health.

Her team’s health system solution, The Compass Within, is a narrative-based therapeutic video game designed to support neurodivergent adolescents.

We are thrilled to celebrate Sabrina Ebengho, a former student from Rifat Atun’s Innovation in Global Health Systems course (ID552), for being named a 2025 Echoing Green Global Fellow!
During her time in the class, Sabrina began developing SAMI+, an initiative focused on reducing maternal and newborn mortality in rural Democratic Republic of Congo through AI-powered portable ultrasounds and training of mobile community health technicians.
Sabrina’s selection as an Echoing Green Fellow places her among a global cohort of changemakers selected from thousands of applicants working across health, equity, climate, and more. This fellowship will support the expansion of SAMI+ and lead to reduced maternal and newborn mortality in the DRC.
