"I have Zinzi and Ryan, and there's no two guts I trust more," Proximity Media co-founder Sev Ohanian says. "I bring the data, they bring the guts."

The trio of Ohanian, Ryan Coogler, and Zinzi Coogler founded @proximitymedia in 2018. The production company is home to the box office shattering and Academy Award winning vampire film "Sinners"—which broke the record for the most Oscar nominations in history earlier this month.

In this episode of The Truth About Leadership, the founders discuss navigating impostor syndrome, balancing their personal and professional relationships, and what they learned from their first jobs.

Over the past two and a half decades, three women’s professional hockey leagues had launched and collapsed, victims of fragmented ownership, insufficient funding, and infrastructure that couldn’t support elite athletes trying to build full-time careers.

So future hockey hall of famer Hilary Knight was skeptical when she joined a players’ committee to negotiate terms for yet another new league.

But the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) shattered the mold. It launched in January 2024, and just months later, set a pro women’s hockey attendance record for a single game. It expanded from six to eight teams for its second season, and attendance jumped 52.5% season over season.

But none of this would have happened had the league not taken critical steps before the first puck ever dropped.

Click the link in our bio to read about how on-ice innovations have powered the PWHL’s growth.

Everybody knows this coworker—the one who spirals about cost-cutting layoffs when snacks vanish from the break room. The one who thinks they’re getting fired because their boss hasn’t been using emojis with them lately.

The one who’s the office Chicken Little: anxious, somewhat frantic, often misguided... and who can’t stop talking to others about whatever it is they’re anxious about.

But for the office Chicken Little, it’s not the dismal mass termination numbers alone that are scary: It’s the unknown future that’s sending them into sustained panic mode.

“Uncertainty is a huge trigger to the stress response” in the body, says physician Esther Sternberg, who’s long studied the effects of stress on humans.

This week, Spotify released some never-before-seen data to users—and it’s coming in a format that looks strikingly familiar.

To celebrate its 20-year anniversary, Spotify launched Your Party of the Year(s), an in-app experience designed to hit users with a blast of nostalgia by walking them through highlights of their own user journey with the app, including their first song ever streamed.

The format is a click-through, interactive infographic, and it looks a whole lot like Spotify Wrapped.

“I’m fine”—a vast majority of women utter those two words reflexively in various scenarios when they’re not, in fact, feeling fine.

Now, @megababe is tackling this so-called “comfort tax” with an ad campaign designed to encourage women to better advocate for themselves.

On Monday, the personal care brand unveiled a series of ads across New York City that underscore how women have normalized discomfort. The campaign comes alongside the results of a March survey it conducted.

Women claiming to be “fine” is so pervasive that 96% of the 500 respondents reported doing so at least weekly, even when they’re not fine. These types of “shockingly high” statistics, while sad, weren’t altogether surprising.

If you were to travel back in time to 1996 with a 2TB thumb drive, you’d be able to fit the entire World Wide Web on it. Of course, that kind of storage didn’t exist in the ’90s, so it’s never been that simple for the Internet Archive.

The nonprofit site, which launched three decades ago this year, has a vast collection of digital resources — from live concert tapings and public domain e-books to troves of forgotten DOS games. Roughly 2 million people access the site’s resources every day.

Now, the @internetarchive is confronting AI scraping fears, antagonistic publishers, and rising storage costs that threaten the future of the open web.

Read a brief history of the storied site at the link in bio.

With gas prices, energy bills, and grocery costs all rising, the affordability crisis is top of mind for most workers. But you can’t talk about that crisis without also talking about extreme wealth inequality.

And just as affordability has worsened recently, so has the gap between regular workers and the rich, including company CEOs.

In 2025, for example, the top 1,500 CEOs of the world’s largest corporations saw an 11% real-terms pay raise. The average global worker, on the other hand, saw their real wages increase by only 0.5%.

That means those CEOs saw their pay increase 20 times faster than workers last year. In the United States specifically, CEO pay grew 20.4 times faster than workers’ wages, an increase of 25.6% compared to just 1.3%.

Learn more about the impact of the growing wage gap at the link in bio.

Peter Gold has always loved making films. While attending film school in New York, he became involved with a film called “Our Hero Balthazar,” directed by Oscar Boyson, known for his work as an executive producer on “Uncut Gems.”

Gold instantly knew the film was something special. He also knew it would be tough to find distribution in today’s theatrical marketplace.

The dramedy was passed over by A24 and Neon. So Gold decided to launch his own distribution company.

@ourherobalthazar opened March 27 at Regal Union Square, generating $33,138 opening weekend gross, second in the theater only to “Project Hail Mary.” The film’s budget was under $2 million.

As contributing writer Eve Upton-Clark writes, Hollywood should take note.

The amount WG Pictures has spent on distribution is less than $1 million. WG Pictures pulled off the feat without spending a single dollar on paid media and instead relied entirely on social media to drive awareness.

Cristina Mancini is used to being the only Black woman in the room.

Still, it took the @blackgirlscode CEO a while to realize the voice in her head didn’t always have her best interest at heart.

But “the day that I told that old hag to kick rocks is the day that my creativity skyrocketed,” @crisbmancini says.

In the latest installment of “The Truth About Leadership,” Mancini discusses why DEI should never be treated as a marketing tactic, the reason she wanted to be an executive growing up, and how she hates all corporate jargon.

Amy Morin sat in her car staring at the front door of the community mental health center, questioning if she could walk in.

“If anyone saw me, they might have assumed I was a patient struggling to face my mental health issues head-on in treatment,” she writes. “But I wasn’t. I was the therapist who was struggling to find the courage to walk in the door.”

At some point, most of us have to show up at work when our lives are falling apart. Yet, we rarely talk about how to stay professional when you’ve got pressing personal problems.
