Eric and his wife Wendy have built a strong community through Team Strom, showing up for ALS awareness with resilience, honesty, and heart. Yesterday, that same kind of support showed up for them.

This recumbent bike was generously donated, then serviced and prepared by Sunset Bicycles in Huntsville, AL. We got the honor of delivering it to them and spending some time getting to know them. What an honor it was to also get to see their Wall of Hope in person! 💛 🥹

For families living with ALS, access to tools that support movement and strength can make a real difference in day-to-day life. The bike will be used as part of Eric’s physical therapy.

At FACT Relief, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all support. We listen, we learn, and we find ways to meet families where they are. We’ve been catching our breath after an incredible few weeks…

From Atlanta to Dallas, the love and support for our families has been overwhelming in the best way.

Today we’re taking a moment to look back at Atlanta. The 11th Annual Quiet Hero Party was an unforgettable night that is already making a real impact.

This year, we had the honor of celebrating our Quiet Hero, Chandler Schaefer, alongside his wife Peri, who are preparing to welcome their baby girl into the world. In the face of ALS, a disease that takes so much, Chandler continues to choose strength, love, and optimism.

Celebrating Quiet Heroes!

Families and Communities Together, better known as FACT Relief, was born after a single father of three was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Devastated by the progressive and terminal nature of their friend’s illness that causes paralysis over time, a group of close supporters began searching for the resources he would need for the difficult journey ahead.

“Twelve years ago, there wasn’t much available, even within the ALS community, so we became the drivers,” Executive Director Kelly Foster says. “Our solution was to create a nonprofit to raise funds for the medical equipment and supplies required for his 24/7 care, as well as help with the uninsured medical costs and basic living expenses.”

FACT Relief has expanded to support primary wage earners facing catastrophic diagnoses or life-altering accidents. It also assists the efforts of individual fundraisers like Buckhead attorney Charlie McDaniel, who organized a triathlon to raise $100,000 in 100 days for his former law partner, John Campbell, also diagnosed with ALS. Although the event at a national park in Nevada scheduled for Oct. 4 had to be canceled due to the government shutdown, it raised nearly $40,000.

On Feb. 21, FACT will stage its 11th Annual Quiet Hero Party at the Buckhead Theater headlined by the Nashville-based rock band Moon Taxi. “We sell out year after year, so buy your tickets early,” Foster says.

Meet Morris Hall. He was diagnosed with ALS last year. It is a disease that is slowly taking away the use of his hands after a lifetime spent working as a mechanic.

Morris is a man of faith, humility, and strength. He’s still trying to wrap his head around this new reality, but one thing is clear: he’s not walking this road alone.

“What we need today is not just to say the word love, but to show it… There is peace among us. We just have to find it within ourselves.” Wise words from Morris himself.
