The California Arts Council (CAC) will commemorate 50 Years of Creative Impact on April 20, 2026at the 50th Anniversary Awards Ceremony. CA for the Arts is pleased to oversee production of this free event honoring distinguished artists, cultural leaders, and institutions whose work has shaped California’s cultural and civic identity for half a century.
Honorees who will be in attendance include Josie Talamantez @jstalamantez, Luis Valdez, Magic Theatre @themagictheatresf Featured Artist Sarah Nina Hayon, Mildred Howard @mildredhoward, Sage Romero, and San Jose Taiko @sanjosetaiko Artistic Director Franco Imperial.
Honorees who will not be able to attend the event include Cheech Marin, Barbara Kruger, Charles Ray, and David Geffen.
We will also recognize the CAC’s founding Council Members. Gary Snyder, Peter Coyote, Luis Valdez, and Suzanne Jackson will all be in attendance. We honor the CAC founding Council Members that are no longer with us - Ruth Asawa, Karney Hodge, Alexander Mackendrick, William Allaudin Mathieu, and Noah Purifoy.
The awards ceremony will happen at 6:00 pm, after the CA Arts & Culture Summit, at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.

The Legislative Joint Committee on the Arts will host an informational hearing this Thursday, presenting “California's Future is Creative: Strategies for Cultural Resilience, Economic Growth, and Global Leadership,” the state's first strategic plan for the creative economy.
Strategic planning was led by the California Arts Council, in partnership with Institute for the Future, who facilitated meetings of the Creative Economy Workgroup and led an extensive research process.
The hearing can be viewed online through the Senate Live Streams and available to watch after the meeting close via the Senate Media Archive.
