When he saw an idyllic open meadow set on a slanted lot in Litchfield, Connecticut, designer Michael Halpern of @halperndesign was instantly struck with a vision to build his forever home that would embrace every angle of the land. He enlisted architect Nate Dalesio of @multitude_studio to help bring his concept to life after seeing a house that Dalesio designed for his family in New York. “Michael’s three top goals with the project were first and foremost to capture and take advantage of the spectacular views provided by the site, which immediately meant that the windows would be a crucial element to the design,” Dalesio recalls. For L.A.-based designer Parrish Cameron Robe of @camerondesign, a love of interiors began long before she ever took on a client. “I was captivated by the work of Eleanor McMillen Brown (who was married to my great-grandfather, architect Archibald Brown) and would spend hours pouring over her design book,” Robe recalls. “I approach our clients’ homes as a tangible expression of their inner world. Often, we are helping them create the spaces in which they’d like to live their ideal life; often helping to make dreams their come true.” That early enchantment eventually led her to train under design luminaries Suzanne Rheinstein and Michael S. When hired to completely overhaul this 5,000-square-foot home in San Francisco, @katiemartinezdesign and @wadedesignarchitects_ were thrilled to work together, again. “This was our second project with both the clients and architects, which made the collaboration feel natural and productive,” says Katie Martinez. “I’ve always enjoyed working with these clients—they are refreshingly intelligent, straightforward and clear about what they need and want. They have a calm, sophisticated yet playful style.” The project involved a reconfiguration of the home’s facade, floor plans for all five levels, a new kitchen and living spaces and a new primary suite level, in addition to all new materials, finishes and decor. “The rear garden was also reconfigured and includes the additions of an outdoor kitchen and a home gym in the very back of the property,” notes Ani Wade. The opening of the 2026 @pasadenashowcasehouse for Arts heralds the true beginning of spring for Southern Californians. Now in it’s 61st year, and open now until May 17th, it’s a great way to combine a good time basking in good design—along with cocktails, crafts and culinary delights—with a good cause: the volunteer non-profit raises money to fund local music programs and support arts education in Southern California. The design community is once again showing up and showing out for a beloved annual tradition. The 2026 @sfshowcase, which runs April 25 through May 25, is a celebration of creativity as well as a fundraiser for University High School’s financial aid program. For its 47th edition, a 10,000-square-foot 1897 Queen Anne-style Victorian has been transformed, as designers collaborated with artists, craftspeople and builders to bring their singular visions to life. Over the past decade—a philanthropist and art collector—had renovated his Mill Valley house, room by room. When it came time to address the kitchen, he enlisted New York-based interior designer @drewmcgukin who then turned to Ben McGriff of @mcgriffarchitects to help execute. The clients had stopped into the open house on a whim during a visit to L.A. The San Carlos–based designer began creating spaces in 2011, when she turned her talents to staging homes in partnership with her sister, a real estate agent. About a year later, Nash launched her own staging company and subsequently expanded into interior design after clients began requesting her services after escrow closed. She operated the two parallel enterprises simultaneously for a few years, but running the full-service @nashdesigngroup proved to be the far more rewarding pursuit. After designing @brownestate’s downtown Napa tasting room in 2017, @catherinekwongdesign was enlisted to tackle the concrete box a couple of doors down, transforming it into an elevated office, a.k.a. Brown HQ. “It’s an industrial space, so we wanted to highlight those elements—the super-tall ceilings and windows, and the polished concrete floors—by layering in luxe materials like soft wool drapery, patinaed bronze lighting with opaline shades and leather and mohair seating,” she says.
