When @raye signed her first record deal in 2014, she thought she'd made it. But her dream of making her own album would be long-delayed, and her own voice deprioritized.
"[It was] seven years of a very tumultuous and complicated relationship with life and my purpose and what I was creating,” she says of the time before going independent and creating her critically acclaimed debut, 'My 21st Century Blues.' “The person I am now is so different. I really like who I am now.”
She reflects more on her journey, her latest album 'THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE' and more for the cover of Billboard's Indie issue. Read it at the link in bio.

A jury says Ye (formerly Kanye West) must pay a six-figure damages award for failing to clear a sample included in an early version of the Grammy-winning song "Hurricane" from his chart-topping album 'Donda.'
The Tuesday verdict, which followed a weeklong trial, held Ye and his companies liable for infringing the copyrighted instrumental track "MSD PT2" on an early demo of "Hurricane," which the rapper played to a stadium of fans at a pre-release 'Donda' listening party in 2021.
Jurors said Ye must share a cut of his profits from that listening party, held in Atlanta and streamed live on Apple Music, with the sample's owners.

@iamhalsey is reflecting on @raye's resilience in her early years — despite feeling as though her artistry was "being obstructed."
“Upon meeting [RAYE], I came to discover she was kind, funny, intelligent and determined," she tells Billboard for RAYE's Indie issue cover story. "We talked a bit about our career journeys, and it was evident immediately that there was a destiny brewing inside her that was bursting to get free. She spoke about the hindrance at her label with an understandable amount of frustration and apathy, but without a single glimmer of surrender.”
