🌀’Amends’ is out now via @memorialsofdistinction ! 🌀 This song has been sitting in the cellar for a long time and in really happy for it to finally be out in the world. It’s a song about the uncertainties of life and the mind, always looking for answers, searching for a sign, slipping down worm holes into deep caves of repetition and fearfulness.
We recorded this last year with @margobroom at @rakstudios. It was a really sunny day and I felt wracked with guilt about getting everyone to sit inside in a dark studio on such a beautiful sunny day, but I’m very grateful that they did because we got to make this together.

🌀 It’s been one week of ‘The Line’ ! 🌀 Thank you so much to anyone who has listened, added it to a playlist, watched the music video, thought about it, hated on it, spread roumers about it, created troll accounts online to bitch about it, put up ‘glass eel sucks’ posters around your neighbourhood, reported my profile for spam, tried to cancel me on Twitter, sent me death threats, tried to attack me in public, put poison in my food, etc - I know you’re all just finding your own way to love me and my music and im so grateful 🩵 pic by my biggest enemy and worst troll @jdyevns

The Line is a song I wrote about feeling like I’m living my life like I’m balanced on a tightrope above a deep pit of lava. This kind of feeling that I’m living life under the hammer, treading on eggshells on top of thin ice, under the thumb of God, and taking one small step off course could result in crashing and burning. At the same time as this urgency, there’s also a banality to plodding along the same line – the balancing act becomes boring. Time passes slowly atop the line, and we are just trying to find ways to stay entertained and pass the time whilst we try to maintain some semblance of balance.

So happy and excited to present the debut single by @_glass_eel 'The Line'!
Inspired by the second, translucent phase of an eel's life cycle, where young creatures drift unseen through the ocean like strands of glass, Glass Eel is a new project by @alice_western, capturing a sense of dislocation, fragility and survival.
The Line perfectly encapsulates this, its soft rocking deep groove supporting a rumination on the tensions of keeping on the straight and narrow while chaos from within and without threatens and tempts.
Out now everywhere with an amazing video by @han._mcloughlin and @cormacofconnell

My grandma was a midwife in London in the 50s. She was from Hackney originally, though she won a scholarship to attend a private school in Islington (which her family would never have been able to afford) which enabled her to get the qualificationsshe needed to go on to study nursing and midwifery. I don’t believe in private schooling, but at the time education in Hackney was apparently very stretched and underfunded and she would have struggled to get the grades and qualifications she needed. This is her on her bike working in Peckham Rye, a stones throw from where I live now, looking after expectant and new mothers and their babies.
