99
99 is a video platform streaming short documentary films from around the world, subtitled in 12 languages. Welcome! 🌍🎬

🏆 We won!
99 just won an @idaorg Award in Los Angeles in the “Best Curated Series” category!
The IDA Awards are (almost) the Oscars of documentary filmmaking. To give you an idea of how competitive they are, we were nominated alongside @nytimes' Op-Docs, PBS's @povshorts and PBS's @independentlens.
We couldn't make it to Los Angeles for the awards ceremony, but we had a wonderful duo there to represent 99.
🙌 Thank you to Keisha Knight from @solidarity.media.network and Olivier Tournaud from @villa.albertine for their support and smile on the red carpet!
This is a wonderful recognition for 99 after ten years of existence. It's incredible for our small non-profit organization to find ourselves alongside such respected players.
But the paradox is that 99 could shut down tomorrow.
Because our project is a fragile marvel.

» – Muhammad Faris
Regardez dès maintenant, gratuitement, « Le cosmonaute syrien », un magnifique court métrage documentaire signé Charles Emir Richards / @charlesemir

7 days, 23 hours, and 5 minutes.
That’s how long Muhammad Faris spent in space in July 1987, becoming the first Syrian cosmonaut. Upon his return to Earth, Muhammad was celebrated as a national hero. Schools, streets, and an airport were named after him.
When civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, the Aleppo native opposed Bashar al-Assad’s bloody regime and joined the protests, before fleeing to neighboring Turkey with his family. Like millions of his compatriots, the cosmonaut became a refugee.
“From space I saw Earth, indescribably beautiful with the scars of national boundaries gone.” – Muhammad Faris

Mattia is serving a 14–year prison sentence for homicide in a Milan detention centre.
In March 2015, an Italian court convicted him and his father for the murder of their neighbour. Mattia was just 18 years old at the time of the crime.
After 7 and a half years behind bars, the young man enrolled at one of the country’s most prestigious universities, @unibocconi. Authorised to leave prison during the day to attend classes, but obliged to return to his cell in the evening, Mattia seized his chance.
How can he fit into this new life that awaits him on the outside? How can he live with the weight of the past?

At just 10 years old, Léandre collapsed during a football practice. A stroke left the entire right side of his body paralyzed.
His dream of becoming a professional player vanished, but the young boy rebuilt himself. Now 14, he thrives in the pool, delivering outstanding performances. Léandre trains one to two hours a day, driven by a single goal: the @la28games!
A year ahead in school, he’s already planning his future and knows he’ll become a neurologist. You might say, “when he grows up,” but the remarkable Léandre is already wise beyond his years.
