11am — 2.30pm
Or by appointment.

We’ll be reopening this Thursday, 6 March, at 11am.

We’re a small, artist-run team, each balancing other work and responsibilities that help sustain this space. For now, we’re committing to consistent core hours, with plans to expand again from July alongside our upcoming Open Call program.

If you’d like to visit outside these times, just send us a DM — often one of us is already in another part of the building and can open up at short notice.

…After the long flight back to Sydney, when I took the drawings out to breathe again, the difference between how I experienced them in Paris and how they felt in the studio was stark. They were at odds with their new home and felt somewhat awkward…

Après-coup revisits drawings made last year during a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Six drawings, each with a graphite face and a mirrored charcoal surface, describe little moments quietly observed and detailed with fondness.

…Après-coup, French for “after the fact” or “later on”, was also used by psychoanalysts to describe deferred action: the way memories are reinterpreted and take on new meaning in light of later experiences. The drawings themselves have become memories, artefacts and snapshots of a multitude of moments…

Very exciting news for this weekend! Terra Firma is thrilled to be heading to Naarm (Melbourne) as part of an exciting collaboration with @864shivers gallery.

In association with the Melbourne Art Book Fair at the National Gallery of Victoria, Terra Firma Magazine is launching the beginning of a 10-year open call through a participatory activation.

Everyone is invited to bring along an object that holds personal significance and have it photographed in our pop-up photobooth. Participants will also be invited to write a short handwritten note reflecting on the meaning of the object.

Each image and note will be carefully archived and kept unseen for a decade, before finally being revealed in the final issue of Terra Firma in 2036.

Issue 10: The Future Archive

We’re excited to announce the next and final issue of Terra Firma Magazine - The Future Archive. A long-form open call that gathers work over the next 10 years into a single archive, published in 2036.

To launch this call, we are partnering with the Melbourne Art Book Fair / National Gallery of Victoria and hosting a pop-up Time Capsule at Shivers Gallery on the weekend of 16–17 May.

We invite you to drop in with an object that holds meaning for you. It will be photographed on site, its story captured, and then stored away for ten years, becoming part of a future archive.

In 2036, these collaborations and contributions will resurface in the tenth and final issue of Terra Firma, completing a decade-long collective record.

This is the first of many events we will be hosting over the next decade so keep an eye out for future activations in your city as this project unfolds. If you’re interested in hosting a workshop or event with us over the next 10 years, we’d love to hear from you, DM us.

SHIVERS Gallery invites curators, artists, artist collectives, filmmakers, designers, and performers to apply to exhibit in 2026. We welcome all mediums.

Selected exhibitions will run for approximately three weeks between July and November 2026.

The open call closes midnight (AEST), 15 March 2026.

There is no fee to apply or exhibit.
