The Westhampton Beach girls lacrosse team defeated Smithtown West 13-9 to win the @sectxisuffolk Class B Championship. The Hurricanes move on to the Long Island Championship Sunday, June 7, against Garden City back at Stony Brook University.

East Hampton Town Councilman Tom Flight endorsed Mayor Jerry Larsen, a challenger, for town supervisor at the Star Island docks on Sunday morning.

On Wednesday, June 3, starting at 6 p.m., The Express News Group will host the candidates running for Southampton Village Board for a debate at the Southampton Arts Center on Jobs Lane.

The debate will feature the four candidates vying for two seats on the Village Board: Incumbent Trustees Len Zinnanti and Ed Simioni and challengers Gina Arresta and Willa Bernstein.

The debate will be moderated by Express News Group Editor-in-Chief Bill Sutton.

A sixth grade student from the Sag Harbor Union Free School District has died following a rafting accident during an annual school trip to the Poconos, local educational administrators announced Wednesday in a message sent to members of the school community on ParentSquare.

The student, identified as Cesar Albarracin Guncay, was participating in a school-sponsored class excursion when the fatal incident occurred.
