TAKE YOUR TIME is a community-building project that grows around art like certain plants might grow on a fence. 🌱✨

We’ve moved into our 450 sqft home, and we want you to help us fill it with "such nonsense."

Our mission is to support emerging artists and educators by lowering the barriers to hosting. Whether you’re a pro or it’s your first time sharing a skill, we have a model that works for you.

We are looking for:
🎨 Workshops & Classes
📽️ Screenings & Talks
🖼️ Exhibits & Showcases
🛍️ Small Markets & Conferences

Got a cool idea that aligns with our no-working values? We want to hear it!

🔗 Submit your inquiry on our website linked in bio, and we will get back to you with more details!

The third source cited lecture is finally upon us! 🌟 This month we will be joined by Dr. Kelly McCormick, who is a historian of modern Japanese material and visual culture.

Kelly McCormick: “What do you do when you are told that someone did not exist in the past but you are certain they must have? In this talk I introduce a historian’s approach to critically engaging with the archive to find a way to tell stories thought to be impossible. Tracing “the woman photographer” in Japan from the 1930s to the 1970s I show how she was represented in the mass media, colluded with the Japanese government during World War Two, and worked to be recognized as a professional and protest systemic inequality in postwar Japan. In doing so I demonstrate how critically reframing the archive provides new possibilities for telling new stories in the present.”

Event Details:
Date and time: May 29, 6:30-9PM
***Location: Take Your Time Back (652 Kingsway, next door to 648 Kingsway)
Note: there will be drinks (non-alc included) available for purchase

Tickets are in the link in bio 🔗

Special thanks to @chim.dee for the poster design 💜

✒️✒️✒️ A RADICAL LANGUAGE-MAKING WORKSHOP - POEMS FOR WORDS THAT DON'T EXIST (YET) at TAKE YOUR TIME ✒️✒️✒️
Hosted by Winston Lê @winstonladdle

Sunday, May 31, 10:30AM - 12PM
652 Kingsway
$15 - Please RSVP on our website link in bio

In this workshop of radical language-making, we will explore a bilateral approach through both writing neologisms (newly-coined word) and kennings (figurative meanings via compound words).

Through three linked writing exercises, we will reshape, enhance and expand our lexical innovations onto our babbling world. This will be a workshop on innovative language-making that will lead to the creation of a poem based on your newly-created word.

This workshop is for everyone, this could be the very first poem you have ever written.

About the host:
Winston Lê is a Vietnamese diaspora poet, interdisciplinary artist, and cultural worker who resides on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. His writing has been featured in, filling Station, ROOted Rhythms, Composed: anthology of poetry 2024, Poetry Pause, periodicities, Sparkling Tongue Press, Ekphrasis Magazine, and pagefiftyone. He is the author of three poetry chapbooks, translanguaging, hybrid utterance, Thhhhh. His debut chapbook, translanguaging was shortlisted for the 2018 Broken Pencil Zine Awards. Winston also has worked on various interdisciplinary collaborations with other artists, including multi-instrumentalist composer, Cameron Catalano, botanical artist, Katrina Vera Wong, and choreographer, Rob Kitsos. In April 2025, Lê was the poet-in-residence at Greywood Arts, an artist residency located in Cork, Ireland.

Take Your Time (Back)- The Final Show
~march•22•2026
•~•~•~•
Filmed on my old Canon Camcorder
Featuring musical acts:
@cranberry_virgin
@chriskittomusic
@effortless.wav
@haleluyahailu
@the_magictriangle_music
@carvers_of_sound

Thank you to @takeurtimeback and everyone working behind the scenes to making this space what it was and giving 648 Kingsway a new life. The Spring Solstice shows was the perfect way to send off an incredible live music space loved by many. It is so incredibly important to support local small business/venues struggling in Vancouver. Spaces like these are what help keep Vancouvers music scene alive. Without these spaces, new local artists like @piss_theband wouldn’t now be signed by SubPop and touring the world. Artists and photographers like myself wouldn’t have the accessibility to live music to build portfolios. Local venues give so many opportunities to new and known artists and musicians and creatives. These spaces make art. These spaces are art. Protect and support your local venues.

Some important accounts to follow in the scene as well as people working towards giving these spaces easier access to the process of legality and protecting diy spaces as well as making local music more accessible: @williamforvancouver @seanorrofficial @intheknow_withchlo @gigpit.ca @venue.coop.yvr

🧘🧘🧘 WEEKLY COMMUNITY MEDITATION TRAINING at TAKE YOUR TIME - Saturday 2PM 🧘🧘🧘
hosted by Luis (TYT co-founder)

Meditation for us is a radical act of reclamation. It helps break the cycle of “urgency culture” - shifting to a state of intentional presence.

Meditation fosters the ability to observe thoughts without being consumed by them, while lowering cortisol levels and deactivating the “fight or flight” response.

In an era of “attention economy” where apps and environments are designed to keep us perpetually distracted for profit, meditation is resistance training for the brain.

Come sit with us in silence. Every Saturday, 2PM at Take Your Time till summer is over.
