I woke up this morning and I started to call you, and then I sat there for a long beat; you’re no longer here. Normally I would be catching a flight to bring in your birthday. A memory that keeps poppin’ up in my head is the time you came to visit me in DTLA, post Undergrad. I slept-in due to working a double shift, and you knocked me off the bed, and said, “what the hell are you doin’; it’s 10am, and I’ve already studied for my vet exam, ran 3 miles, had breakfast. You still sleepin’, really?”

That was a defining moment in my life. Right then and there; I made the decision to apply to Grad School. I wasn’t sure what I was going to go to Grad School for, but I knew I was going to go. That day, the lesson in your words I took was…complacency is your best friend when you’re satisfied, and your enemy when you want to push forward. Complacency should always be the villain of your existence.

Midway through my second semester of Film School, I was walking home from class, and I felt hella defeated. My first film was the worst amongst my peers, and my professors was kicking my ass in class, and on set due to not comprehending the material fast enough. That evening I called you, and I felt ready to throw in the towel. Your response to me was: “I don’t know shit about a camera, a screenplay or a C-Stand, but what I do know is you betta figure dat Ma’fu%ka out cause WE AIN’T QUITTERS!”

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you cousin. I promise, as long as I walk this Earth, I will be the best Godfather to Zane @kik_0829 , and I will keep your memory and legacy alive.
