Factum Arte worked in collaboration with Canadian music and visual artist @grimes, the @misalignmentm in San Francisco and Eurypheus to produce tapestries based on two AI-generated images prompted to create in the Rococo style, and in reference to the concept of “technological singularity”.

The “singularity” is a hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilisation.

Factum Arte's Textile Department worked to translate the two digital images into the language of weaving on a Jacquard loom at @flanderstapestries, using a combination of threads from cotton to merino wool and cashmere.

Both tapestries were on display at @christiesinc as part of the 'Augmented Intelligence' Online Auction (February 20 - March 6, 2025).

In the early days of midjourney these depictions of the rococo basilisk went viral but we wanted to think of a constructive way to implement ai art that supported human artists and preserved craft - so the misalignment museum funded the creation of these tapestries by medieval art restorers.

(We didn't actually use Austrian children in the creation of these tapestries.However we did use more threads than Henry 5 💅🏻)
