A few weeks ago, I started a training cycle with @coachjfire and am really excited for "some gains," as they say, while the climbing reason ramps up around here.
In 17 years of climbing, I've gone through maybe 6 or 7 very deliberate, multi-month training cycles and each one has taught me about my body, getting stronger, maintaining, and (especially lately) the true power that lies in recovery.
Food, sleep, rest days, hydration, low volume, play days... all of these are part of getting strong, especially as the years of living and climbing accumulate.

Specifically, my bedrocks of recovery are:
💪 Getting enough protein ALL WEEK when I'm climbing and training hard.Through whole foods and snacks with @gnarlynutrition protein powders, it's become part of my routine.
🩸Tracking my cycle and adjusting my food, expectations, and reps accordingly so I can really love being a female athlete, rather than be confused and disappointed half the time.
😴Lots of sleep, 9 hours as often as possible.
🥤My Power Drink™️ with Gnarly collagen, creatine, performance greens, and hydrate to pre-recover on big days out
🐟Gnarly Omega 3s and Magnesium at night for muscle synthesis (and great sleep!)

Sometimes, it feels like a part time job, recovering. But when I consider how much training I'm doing, the thought of it not "counting" because I'm OVERworked... I'm not into that.

What is working really well in your recovery?Anything you've learned lately that you're trying out?

@tenayaclimbing made something really special with the Indalo.
"Designed to put more resources on your foot, you will be surprised by its wide range of response and above all its ability to provide solutions when using all types of difficult footholds.

With a behavior that is neither too soft nor too structured, Indalo has a perfect balance between all its features and offers the best performance both in bouldering and on vertical and overhanging routes."

Hard to put it any better than that. And, I gave it a try in this honest review.

Are you ready for outdoor climbing season?? 🧗‍♀️

Liberty Mountain Athlete, Tash Downing (@tashofthewasatch) is here to share what she likes to do in the gym to prepare for outdoor season!

🧗Climbing on an interactive training board is great because you can select different problems with the connected app and focus on increasing power and accuracy.

🧗‍♀️Getting on the lead wall allows you to stay comfortable and confident with clipping in and taking falls. It’s important to practice essential skills needed for outdoor sport climbing like clipping and managing rope tension.

🧗‍♂️Working on mobility is super important to make sure your body can move in a full range of motion and is prepared for any positions the wall may put you in. Signing up for a yoga class or stretching on your own are both great ways to increase your mobility.

What do you like to do to train for outdoor climbing season?

Do you ever feel like the biggest things holding your climbing and training back are actually non-physical? Maybe it’s work-life balance: you just don’t have enough time to get outside or stick with a training plan. Maybe it’s your mental game: fear or negative self-talk are holding you back. Or maybe you just realize that climbing is a mental sport: you have a hunch that a little more focus and mindfulness will help you break through to the next level.

If this sounds familiar, you have to check out ClimbWell  @climbwell.co, a 4-day retreat in St George Utah, for climbers interested in mindfulness and personal growth. The retreat is run by three experienced climbers: Blake Cason (@blake_cason life coach and Beal Athlete), Remy Franklin (@remyfranklin life coach, and Singing Rock Athlete), Gaby Colletta (@wanderingvayu therapist and yoga instructor)). The three founders are all certified climbing guides with a collective 45 years of climbing experience, so they know a few things about climbing as well as life, wellness, and coaching. They created ClimbWell to help climbers grow as people and athletes so we can all find a little better climb-life balance and elevate our performance on and off the rock.

The ClimbWell team is offering Liberty Mountain’s audience $100 off their 4-day retreat in St George UT (April 10-13). Head over to www.climbwell.co and use the Discount Code “LIBMTN” at checkout.

The ClimbWell retreat is organized around workshops and clinics, so you’ll be on the rock every day covering topics like:
❖ Befriending Fear
❖ Performance Climbing
❖ Rock-Life Balance
❖ The Art of Attention
❖ Setting Climbing Goals

Learn more about the retreat at www.climbwell.co and send them a message there is you have any questions or concerns about joining.

Oh the mysteries of performance!
Spectators see the finale of years of toiling, cursing, crushing, faffing, futsing, and failing...

Truth be told, 90% of these photos are posed and paused to catch the angle, the light, the artificial moment. And that's just fine.

When I first started climbing, I was surrounded by the A-Team. Professional climbers who didn't even warm up on my hardest climbs. When I finally embraced the imperfection necessary to build skill and success, it radically transformed my relationship to climbing in every good way possible.

So, here's to posing, performing and everything in between.

The key to happiness is low expectations.
Lower
Lower...
Keep going
...
Okay.

It's quite rare that I throw myself into deep, unknown water - I like to make a gradual plunge.Had I known this route was going to have me in so deep, I might have put it off.
As the 18 hour day went on, and I was pushing to keep up, I'm so glad and happy and proud of how it all turned out. For all of us.
I didn't perform as high as my expectations, but damn if I don't love getting to experience reality in such a mind blowing place.

As always, the support of @beal.official ropes and gear, and @libmtn snacks and silly hiking hats and trekking poles and sleeping bags and..... Are part of what makes these days come together, and stay together from car-to-car.

Tak, legalne jest pobieranie i zapisywanie historii z Instagrama innych użytkowników, pod warunkiem, że nie będą one wykorzystywane do celów komercyjnych.
