Sooooo THAT just happened 🤯

We went into this election with 4 Green Councillors, today we wake up to a Green Mayor of Hackney and 40 (yes, 40!!) Green Councillors.

Hackney residents have rejected the old political way and have voted for a better future - one with people-powered democracy at its heart.

Thank you for trusting us, we are proud to represent you and will work hard to fix what’s broken, get the basics right and make Hackney a place you can afford to stay.

GREEN WIN! 💚 @zoegarbettgreen is elected Mayor of Hackney with a massive 47% of the vote share.

This is all I have to say about that.

Week 1 as Mayor of Hackney ✅

From appointing my incredibly talented cabinet to meeting with community groups, leaders and campaigners who are doing incredible work in our borough, it’s been a great start to the job.

Looking forward to week 2 and getting stuck in to delivering on our manifesto commitments, with our amazing team of council officers.

Great meeting with Erkan Baş and representatives of Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP)

We spoke about grassroots eco-socialist organising, and how to build international solidarity against the global rise of authoritarian, extractivist and profit-driven regimes that continue to deepen inequality, exploitation and environmental destruction.

A first step in opening a dialogue and building relationships across borders.

I want to extend my gratitude to all those who came to Hackney from across the country and campaigned on the ground with urgency and conviction for a new local administration rooted in hope and change. I would also like to thank all the residents who believed in us and cast their votes at the ballot box.

To God Almighty be the glory for this win. A clean sweep of all three seats in King’s Park 🙏🏿💚
