Warhammer 40k - Secret Level

Kling 3.0 Omni — AI enhance render test

Took a raw 3D render and ran it through Kling 3.0 Omni edit to see how it handles enhancement on a fluid sim scene.

Findings:
— The environment got a serious upgrade. Lighting, atmosphere, scene depth, all improved in ways that would’ve taken real time to dial in manually.

— The fluid shading fell apart. The sim motion stayed intact, but the material on it looks wrong.

— Kling doesn’t respect the input as strictly as Wan 2.2 does. It shifted the timing slightly and nudged the camera motion subtle, but noticeable when you compare side by side. On this shot I got lucky and the drift worked in my favor. On other tests I’ve run, that same looseness became a problem, and Wan 2.2 running locally with a high step count gave me more consistent results.

— Final comp ended up being the move. Keep the original 3D shading where it matters, let the AI lift the scene around it.

Houdini + ComfyUI - Workflow

I used a viewport preview from a viscous fluid sim in Houdini as input for Wan2.2, along with a still image as visual reference. Everything ran locally, no cloud.

Setup: RTX 5090 (32GB VRAM) + 192GB DDR5 RAM.
Result: 3s at 24fps, 700×700px. ~40 min generation time.

Some interesting findings:

— The AI tracks the input sim surprisingly well. It follows movement and timing closely, not a loose interpretation.

— 4-step LoRA wasn’t usable, quality too low. Standard flow is slower but delivers.

— Upscaling after generation is way lighter. Generate at lower res, scale up after, that’s the move.

— A 5090 and 192 RAM is serious hardware and still needed 40 min for 3 seconds. Cloud services have optimizations we don’t, but this processing isn’t cheap to scale. Many of these services are running subsidized pricing right now. When that adjusts, what will AI video actually cost in production?
