*EXPOSITION*Gregory Crewdson. Eveningside

🔎 Gregory Crewdson a dressé depuis une trentaine d’années un portrait de l’Amérique moyenne, une Amérique aux yeux écarquillés vers les lumières d’un rêve en épuisement. Ses photographies, mises en scène avec les dispositifs propres au cinéma, ont peu à peu assemblé les fragments d’un monde crépusculaire. Son œuvre est époustouflante dans sa manière d’entremêler une dimension autobiographique au portrait d’une Amérique sans gloire, théâtre d’une humanité rongée par une angoisse sourde, ruisselante d’abattement et d’ennui. Les lumières blafardes et les rues désertées ont été dès l’origine les lieux de prédilection de ses créations, conçues comme des scènes de cinéma pour produire des photographies qui, contre toute attente, demeurent les images de films qui n’existent pas.

#throwback to a decade ago when an image by Gregory Crewdson appeared on our Spring 2016 cover, from his then-newest body of work, Cathedral of the Pines.
