Performed originally by Grover Washington Jr., the soulful classic has been reinterpreted by many notable musicians over the years. Allison Soul’s rendition is mainly inspired by Amy Winehouse, who rearranged the lyrics to touch on themes of substance use, making her version of the song a stoner anthem. As a lyricist Allison also leans into these themes, as her 2023 single “Floating” celebrates weed’s healing abilities.
