SEATTLE OPERA
Bringing the Seattle community together through opera since 1963.

Seattle Opera hosted what appears to be the first official Furry Night at the Opera during a performance of Carmen, complete with fursuits, opera binoculars, rolling luggage full of tails, and a mock bullfight in the lobby.
The night was organized around baritone Christian Pursell, known in the furry community as Chester the Geroo, who plays Escamillo in the production. Before the show, he signed posters, handed out stickers, gave head pats, and posed for photos with attendees in full suit.

Thanks to everyone who came out for a fun and furry night at Carmen with our very own Escamillo (@cppursell) as his fursona, @chestergeroo
Over 60 members of the furry community joined us for Furry Night at Carmen, which included a meet & greet with Chester in costume as Escamillo, and even an impromptu bullfight!
@thestrangerseattle summed up the evening perfectly:
“Opera has a reputation for being a stuffy, upper-class art form, something exclusive, intimidating, and maybe not entirely meant for me. But just as my assumptions about the furry community turned out to be lazy and incomplete, so too were my assumptions about the opera. Furry Night at the Opera reminded me that both are, at their best, invitations: spaces built around passion, community, and the simple joy of sharing an experience with others. Art, it turns out, is for everyone.”

Bird’s-eye view of Carmen from the catwalk! The show may be over but we’re still dreaming about this bedazzled, confetti-filled moment from the finale.
In an impassioned declaration of love—or rather, obsession—Don José (@ryancapozzo) fervently professes that while imprisoned, he had "only one desire, one hope" to see Carmen again in the Flower Aria (La fleur que tu m'avais jetée).
