ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

DONYÉ GREEN

Donyé K. Green is a writer and photographer born and raised in Oakland, CA. His work often features themes of community, queerness and body politics. Green received a B.A. in Cinema Studies and is trained as a film producer and director. His thesis film was the first in CSU Long Beach’s history to be directed, produced, and written by a queer Black person. Green’s photo series documenting Black celebration post COVID-19,“Juneteenth”, was among the official selections for an inaugural exhibition at LA gallery Junior High. As an NYU Art’s Politics M.A. graduate, Green is enthusiastic about body politics, community and the relations between performance and place. DONYÉ’S PHOTOGRAPHY

MAY 2, 3, TWO BOOTS AVENUE A, 2-6PM

A photo-study on worth, worthiness, and the performance of identity. Participants are photographed in two modes of self-presentation: Amor, the version we put on to move through the world — to work, to blend in, to protect ourselves — and the actual, an unguarded composite of who we are in essence. Alongside their portrait, each participant responds to a series of questions about worth, desire, legacy, and self-preservation, rendered as handwritten letters.
The resulting exhibition presents 20–25 images across Touchstones’ programming sites, accompanied by an interactive suggestion box where viewers are invited to respond to the same questions — by hand, if possible. A QR code makes the full prompt accessible on site.

“Chasing White Stripes” is a short film all about the push through. If you can relate, then this story is for you!

A coming-to-terms story, our film follows Tex. A young athlete caught between the blinding clarity of the track and the intoxicating shadows of the stage. In order to embrace his truth, he must defy fear, break stereotypes, and discover who he truly is in a world that doesn’t fit into a single lane.
