We have two workshops coming up this weekend - Wacky Characters on Saturday and Make a Concertina book on Sunday - but in between we have themed drop in sessions morning and/or afternoon Thursday to Sunday for this weekend and next.

The Social Glue of Sydney has been supported by @innerwestcouncil in the provision of the venue for this exhibition, and @cityofsydney in the provision of our meeting space 4 times a month

Wacky Characters is a workshop to accompany the first group exhibition by The Social Glue of Sydney.

Cut and collage your own kooky, crazy, whacky creatures. An emu egg with frog legs? A fish with human arms? Or maybe a cockatoo with a platypus beak and fish tail? Anything you can imagine is possible here in this world of creatures, critters, humans and other things. Let’s cut and paste our own wild world together.

Come and play with us and mix and match with what you find in our extensive collection of collage material.

There will be materials and guidance provided to create your own collages to take home.

This workshop is facilitated by Social Glue artists Bettina Kaiser and Jacqui Biffin. It is suitable for children aged 6-12. Guardians do not need to be present throughout the whole event (both conveners have working with children checks and are experienced educators). Please be present to pickup your little artist 10 minutes before the end of the session.

Illustrative images are from two of our younger, long-term Social Glue members. The smiling banana is by Martina Uribe-Berrera, aged 10 at the time of making and the Bat-Cymbal is by her sister, aged 12 at the time of making.

About us:

The Social Glue of Sydney is a dedicated collage-making group that emphasises practice around a communal table and the applied study of the collage form.

We understand that serious art-making is hampered by three huge impediments: time to make/space to make/money to make. In the design of The Social Glue, we attempt to address all three.

Collage practice is the glue that binds the attendees.

Artists in the exhibition include:

Mia Ardianto, Jacqui Biffin, Kathryn Bird, Nicole Buckland, Anne Chestnut, Alice Crawford, Amanda Holt, Bettina Kaiser, Mandy King, Zoe Sadokierski, and other artists of the Social Glue of Sydney.

Exhibition Dates: 9 - 24 May 2026 (Thurs-Sun, 10am-4pm)
