Summer break is almost here ☀️ but for many families, that doesn’t mean things get easier.
When school is out, parents and caregivers are left figuring out childcare, summer camps, work schedules, transportation, and rising costs all at once. For too many families, care is too expensive, too limited, or too hard to access.
As summer approaches, we’re reminded that families need more than temporary solutions. They need affordable, accessible childcare that supports parents, caregivers, children, and communities across South Carolina.

Want to bring advocacy tools, community conversations, and civic engagement resources directly to your community?
WREN offers sessions across South Carolina, including advocacy trainings, community conversations, letter-writing workshops, and more. These gatherings are designed to help communities better understand the issues impacting women, girls, and families and how to turn that knowledge into action.
Request a session at scwren.org or email ajones@scwren.org

Real stories can create real impact.
When you share your experience through WREN’s Storyteller Series, your story can help show lawmakers and the public what policies look like in everyday life. Those lived experiences can shape conversations, inform advocacy, and help move South Carolina toward lasting change.
Your story matters and it can help move us forward. ✊

The regular legislative session may be over, but SC lawmakers are back for a special session after pressure from the President to redraw our maps.
This is about power and is an attempt to cheat voters out of fair representation. The maps lawmakers draw impact everything from reproductive health access to economic justice for years to come.
And because the House and Senate can still move legislation during this special session, dangerous bills remain in play.
Call your Senators and tell them to VOTE NO on changing our maps.

Progress for working families takes partnership. 🤝
Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter spoke on the House floor about the shared effort to move Senate Bill 11 forward, a bill that would expand paid parental leave eligibility for state employees in South Carolina.
We’re grateful for Rep. Cobb-Hunter’s leadership and for every lawmaker helping move this policy forward.

Regular session has adjourned, but the work at the State House continues. Last week, Governor McMaster called the General Assembly back into session to discuss redistricting and the state budget, but those are not the only issues that could come up.
All legislation is technically still in play.WREN will continue to share updates and opportunities to take action in the upcoming weeks. 💜

Mental health is a South Carolina issue, and when our communities struggle, women and families feel the impact.
These numbers show the need for more accessible care, stronger support systems, and resources that meet people before they reach crisis. For women and girls, mental health is connected to so many parts of life: caregiving, school, work, safety, economic security, and overall well-being.
Building a healthier South Carolina means investing in the people, families, and communities that make our state stronger. 💜
