Big thanks to @holidayrecords, @stack.records and all the vendors who turned Supreme HQ into a record swap this past Saturday, with @tbc.radio broadcasting live all afternoon. Coffees were poured. @drinkalmighty’s were cracked. Crates were dug through. Someone definitely said “I’m just browsing” before leaving with three records under their arm.

Following the strong reception of their second album, Totem of Quiet Mystic (2023) Jiyu have earned praises from outlets such as Jazzwise, Enlace Funk and The Chillout Tent, as well as support from a wide range of iconic DJs including Patrick Forge & Chris Coco. The singles to this new album, Cumulus & the Subterranean, Smell of Fire and Deep Woods, have immediately been embraced—drawing glowing reactions and airplay from dj’s like, Phil Cooper, Dj Vadim, Fred Everything, David Patterson, Jon Kennedy and Curtis ColinOn this third album from Jiyu, the Copenhagen band stretch their cosmic–spiritual jazz language into deeper, wilder terrain. Dropping April 10th on vinyl and digital via Dubsoul Records, the record captures six musicians in full telepathic flight, recorded at 12 Ton Studio in Copenhagen. Across eight tracks, elastic basslines, jazz-dub-soul—tinted drums and percussion, Wurlitzer and jazz-guitar glow and flute-swept atmospheres drift between grounded groove and open-sky improvisation, while guest vocalist Mai Lan Doky adds dreamlike textures on Cumulus & the Subterranean. Japanese beatmaker “BudaMunk” has built a truly global career through sessions and collaborations with artists such as Jansport J, Willie B, and J. Lamotta, releasing music on respected U.S. labels including Delicious Vinyl and Fat Beats. Now, his 2018 beat album Movin’ Scent, originally released on Japan’s Dogear Records, finally receives its first-ever vinyl pressing via P-VINE.

Movin’ Scent showcases BudaMunk’s deep musicality and wide stylistic range. The album features contributions from TSuggs (Tony Suggs)—keyboardist for Roy Hargrove’s The RH Factor and the fifth pianist of the Count Basie Orchestra—as well as DJ Yuze, a Japanese hip-hop OG now active on the jazz scene. The record also includes a long-awaited collaboration with mabanua, mellow-madness style beats featuring cavalier (known for his work with 5lack and Iman Omari), and hard-hitting rap tracks with ISSUGI and Senninsho. Spanning 13 tracks, Movin’ Scent moves seamlessly between jazz-inflected instrumentals, soulful beat tapes, and underground hip-hop, making it an essential vinyl release for fans of modern beats, jazzy hip-hop, and international groove culture.
