I absolutely cannot wait to make my bandleader debut at the legendary @samfirstbar May 28!!!

I’ve been lucky enough to get involved in some extremely high level areas of work in the jazz, composing, audio engineering, music production, cinematography and photography worlds - It’s low key why I moved to LA.

But at the core of that, I am a saxophonist. I’ve been playing this instrument for 20 years! And for a long time I’ve been working to create an artistic ecosystem robust enough for my saxophone playing to live in. That ecosystem is now alive and well, and I’d like to welcome you in it and show you what I’ve been secretly creating for the past four years.

Portals is an immersive sound and haptic experience, drawing upon the idea of mourning and ancestral communications as textural entities.

The music has been mindfully written to offer connections to Caroline’s ancestors who have transitioned and elements they would like to explore.

If you really hurry, you can still make the second set of Alan Ferber's Nonet at Sam First - and it's so deeply worth it! It's a PHENOMENAL band - Alan Ferber (trombone), Julien Knowles (trumpet), Alex Hahn (alto sax), Daniel Rotem (tenor sax), Tom Luer (baritone sax), Anthony Wilson (guitar), Bill Cunliffe (piano), Emiliano Lasansky (bass) and Mark Ferber (drums). They mostly played Ferber's complex, absolutely gorgeous originals. But I wanted to listen to and delight in those rather than shooting them. So instead I recorded their last tune in the first set - a very different version of what is usually a ballad - The More I See You - with some burning solos. Also, please check out Alan Ferber's Roots & Transitions album if you'd like to bask in deeply gorgeous music that lies in the land between jazz and contemporary classical...

This is a really defining year. This current era is crumbling, but it’s also making room for the new one. So many of my friends are releasing masterwork albums this year, and I intend to join them 🛰️
