It’s been quite a week putting together our Debut show for bedtime sonic fables from scratch in Auroville.

At the heart of the space, a water cymatics installation visually translates sound into organic, hypnotic patterns.

Cymatics is the study of visible sound and vibration, exploring how acoustic frequencies create geometric patterns in physical mediums like sand, water, or metal plates.

Coined by Hans Jenny, this field demonstrates that vibration, rather than solid matter, is the primary shaper of form, creating ordered, beautiful, and complex patterns.

Dhrupad is a form of Indian classical vocal music that is contemplative by design. Its slow, deliberate alap (improvised opening) centres on precise sound, breath, and resonance, inviting stillness, sustained attention, and a sense of inner quiet.

In their Sleep Series for Jñāna, @pause.dxa weaves Dhrupad vocal improvisation, one of the oldest living Indian classical traditions, with electronic drones and contemporary acoustic instruments, creating a layered and introspective field of listening. These sound immersions are designed to encourage deep rest: slowing the breath, settling the nervous system, and creating space for renewal and reflection.

pause.dxa is an immersive sound experience project by Sahitya and Harsh. Sahitya is a Dhrupad vocalist and pianist; Harsh is a mathematics educator and sound researcher. Both trained at the SVARAM Sound Experience program in Auroville.

This is listening rooted in lineage, distinct from the generic, algorithm-generated sleep sounds increasingly sold across wellness apps today.

pause.dxa is an experimental sound and music experience project by Sahitya and Harsh based in Auroville, India. Starting as a sound immersion project in January 2023, pause.dxa has evolved into an exploration of how one experiences sound and music.

With a background in music and sound research, Sahitya and Harsh have collaborated with cultural institutions, worked across diverse formats and showcased at festivals across India and abroad like Ozora Festival Hungary, MaHalla Berlin, Burning Donkey Festival Sri Lanka, Magnetic Fields Festival, G5A Warehouse, Harkat Studios, GAIA Festival and more.
