Many months ago as Minnesota grappled with the fallout of recent shootings at places of worship, schools, spaces we all presumed safe, and as many artists and community members continued to advocate against the genocide in Palestine through fundraising, advocacy, and protest, I reached out to my pals Hilary and Nat with the idea to make a little record of protest songs I’d been working on. We gathered that fall to track a handful of tunes in Nat’s living room, adding one of Hilary’s tracks to the collection. This quickly evolved into the concept of a compilation record as we sought to expand the reach and impact of the project.

Fast forward, things in our city got much worse and we all pivoted to supporting various mutual aid projects, protests, and efforts resisting ICE. Including numerous compilation records and fundraiser concerts. All the while we’ve been quietly working on this little record.

Today it’s my birthday, and in celebration of all that our community and world continues to endure, resist, witness, we’re releasing this collection of songs into the world. It’s available to stream exclusively on Bandcamp, and can be purchased for as little as $5 (I will happily send a free download to anyone who wants the music but doesn’t have the funds) . All proceeds will be sent to @thepcrf and @mn_momsdemandaction

Shout out to all the artists who donated their beautiful songs, time, and effort to this project, asking nothing in return. About the song:
Right Person is a song about romantic love, the oft misaligned timing of affection, and the idealized notions we have around marriage and family as our younger selves. Ultimately it can be a story with a happy ending, or the revisiting of an unrequited or terminal romance. One which cycles back as they do through rosey distortions in the rearview mirror of memory and nostalgia.

Before you ask, it’s not about me😆 But also, is probably about most of us in some way or another if you’ve ever been in and out of love. A love song!

One of the best parts about touring and bringing our show to you live is it gives us a chance to celebrate the rich culture and diversity that a city's food community has to offer. When we're lucky, we get to bring special musical guests on stage, too.

I left work early yesterday with the sick feeling that what if this person was a mom with a kid? Who in a small act of resistance, of bravery, of community, a moment of confusion, lost her life. I wondered if I’d be as brave, thinking of my little boys.
I came home and started writing this song before learning her name. Renee Nicole Good. The image of her car speeding away in the last moments of her life, stuck in my head.

Sometimes I feel all I have to contribute to these moments are songs. It’s not enough, but it’s what I can offer today. Song is titled “Who is she to you”
