For the next phase of our S30 build we’re getting into metalwork and rust repair that is always prevalent in these early cars. It’s always there on an unrestored Z, It all depends on how deep you’re willing to go for the best foundation.

While we’re in there, we’ve decided to level up this build and add some additional chassis bracing with the idea of increasing rigidity in key areas while still keeping the weight to a minimum.

Since we were replacing the entire rear valance, we started there and then added additional bracing in between the inner and outer rocker after all structural repairs were made.

Once the bracing is added, the outer panels are reinstalled and the bracing is hidden from sight.

We’ll be adding additional bracing and a fair amount of custom fabrication as we go.#jdmlegends #s30z #240z

We’ve been into our latest S30 build here for a minute but I wanted to take step back and start from the beginning to give you an idea of our process.

Mismatched panels aside, our latest donor is a very clean 1970, 240z that was the perfect candidate for what we were looking for.

The process starts out the same on any full restoration, removing every single nut, bolt and component, sound deadening etc. until we’re down to a shell.

Where this one differs is that we decided to skip the paint stripper and media blasting process and decided to have this one acid dipped.

Not every Z is a good candidate for the process, but this is by far the most thorough and effective way to get to bare metal, inside and out.

The only pant it didn’t remove was the engine bay that had been resprayed with some type of polyurethane paint years ago that had to be stripped by hand.

The good news is that we have a pretty clean chassis to start with but there’s ALWAYS rust, like it or not.It all depends on how thorough you want to go in a restoration.

We then fabricate chassis bracing specific to the areas of repair to ensure everything remains straight for the repairs ahead.Let the cutting begin…#jdmlegends #s30z #240z

Getting into the new year with something a little different.. Stepping outside our norm with this one, and with a new drivetrain comes new challenges and finding solutions. The first and most important is having solid foundation to build on.

Last piece of the puzzle for the Hakosuka GT-R build. After rebuilding the engine and finding a faulty HDI, we converted to a more readily available MSD 6AL ignition system that wouldn’t allow the original transistor tachometer to work, even with the tach adapter.

Luckily @pivot_jpcame through with a factory reproduction tachometer for the GT-R with modern internals for digital ignition systems.

Everything can be reverted to factory if necessary but this gives us a more accurate and reliable solution than the unobtainable factory transistor ignition.#jdmlegends #hakosuka #hakosukagtr #nissanskylinegtr

Still needs some work but the 510 project drove (and stopped) under its own power and I’ll take it.

Carbs are dialed, exhaust is done and the suspension has a decent base alignment and still sitting just right.Time to see how it drives.. but that’s going to have to wait until after the @japaneseclassiccarshow
