Today we celebrate who she was and how she continues to walk with us every single day, because that’s what she would want. How do I know? Because that was her way… and us Insco boys have experienced such remarkable things in the 5 years since she passed. Things I never imagined or believed we’d have the energy or courage to accomplish. She continues to be a blessing. The best way we can honor her legacy is to live with vigor, curiosity, courage, empathy and grace. I’m grateful to have learned that from her.

From front yard in foothills of Sherman Oaks looking southwest at the Palisades fire moving through Mandeville canyon heading towards Encino. Hoping highway 405 provides enough protection. Yesterday I had chills and was moved when I saw a FDNY fire truck here. OUR FIRST RESPONDERS ARE THE BEST OF HUMANITY.

I remember this look like it was yesterday. The “I don’t know what you’re up to, but I’m here for it” look. LOL. I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since we lost this angel on earth. She demonstrated such grace and wisdom through everything. I’m grateful for all of the wonderful memories we made, our sons, her patience with me, and the many things she continues to teach me, like… Life is hard. Keep moving forward one step at a time. Hard indeed. Hard not to mourn what was lost but celebrate what we had and have. Especially on 7/13. But, in her resilient spirit, I’ll celebrate her legacy today, not her loss. And will continue to live my life with curiosity, passion and vigor to honor her. Wishing the same to all those who knew her.

Recently got to celebrate Sco on senior day. So proud of the grit and determination he’s demonstrated throughout this journey. And what a ride it’s been! Though his playing career is over, his passion for the game continues as he moves into the coaching ranks. He’ll make an excellent coach to be sure. Love you @ryaninsco Thanks for all the memories.

Taken 30 years ago today! My relationship with Shell not only enriched my life beyond anything I could have imagined but also helped me learn some of the most valuable lessons. I’ll always feel grateful and blessed to be loved by someone so extraordinary. And I’m relieved to still feel her presence regularly. I know she’s watching out for us while doing remarkable things elsewhere.

July 13th is emotionally challenging for many of us since it’s the day she joined our other angels (3 years ago). But we learned from her how to battle through adversity with grace and joy regardless of circumstances. So, yeah, it’s challenging and we miss her terribly, but we feel her presence and we have many things to be thankful for and joyful about. Spread joy. Life is precious.

Can’t blame Forbes for naming STL the most dangerous city (again). Shouldn’t make excuses about “the data” or the city and county split. It’s dangerous. People are scared... and fleeing. Need new policies and leadership unlike anything this region has seen in decades.I was drawn here 23 years ago because of a vision of what it could be. Tried to be part of the solution and ran into intractable racism, outdated thinking and close-mindedness from every direction. My confidence has eroded year after year. Now lower than tolerable. This effects every sector. As a small business owner I see heightened competition for twindling opportunities. This directly, negatively impacts talented people wanting to make a life here (or choosing not to). This doesn’t end well without a fresh perspective and tangible change. As much as I love the new energy of a new MLS team and stadium. That is not the solution. Fix city government and policy. Make city living desirable again through better education for children, safety and public services. Fix our airport. Bring the region together and make it a unified powerhouse like other regions have done, rather than being a city of a thousand towns competing for decreasing resources. Much of the “old money” left town. Thank God for the newer money that’s keeping our cultural institutions afloat year after year. How long before their money or patience run out? It’s time for something different. Look for something that moves you out of your comfort zone. Unfortunately we’re hardwired to hate what we don’t understand. We must look beyond our fears or St. Louis will suffer the fate of so many other mid-tier cities that have fallen extinct. This is not a message of hate, but of disappointment, yearning and hope.
