About the FCR FDI

At the Fulldome Institute, we research, we collect, we catalogue, document and distribute knowledge about the creation of immersive media, especially fulldome.

We aim to promote the use of free software and open source code, and try to recreate expensive setups with low cost alternatives. Our projects should save resources, be replicable for many, and foster a a creative spirit of joint multidisciplinary innovation.

In this way, we are empowering the next disruptive generation of multidisciplinary Fulldome artists, leading "The Rebels of Fulldome".
This self-proclaimed movement creates, mentors and explores artistic development from inside the Fulldome Institute and outside of the unwritten rules and paradigms of the medium.

ÜBER MEIN PRAKTIKUM

Mein erstes Projekt bestand darin, Designs im Stil von FCR zu erstellen, wobei ich die Farbpalette der Grundfarben abwechslungsreicher gestaltet habe.

Anschließend habe ich mich mit der Umgestaltung unseres Büros beschäftigt.

Hier habe ich in der Werkstatt von Grund auf Akustikpaneele für das Studio gebaut.
Ich habe die Holzrahmen zusammengesetzt, sie mit Steinwolle gefüllt und anschließend mit Stoff bezogen.
Insgesamt wurden 7 mittelgroße Wandpaneele und 2 große Deckenpaneele gefertigt.

Außerdem habe ich das Studio in unserem Büro aufgebaut und darin mit binauralem Sound gearbeitet

Ich habe an einem Musikvideodreh für YouTube gearbeitet

Eigene Schriftarten entworfen

Mit 3D gearbeitet

Ein 3D-Modell des FCR-Büros nachgebaut

Ein zweiteiliges modulares Gemälde gemalt

Am 3D-Modellierungskurs teilgenommen

Designs für Websites und Instagram-Posts erstellt

About his Internship with FCR

With 17 years old, Sasha is taking part in FCR's collaboration with secondary schools in the Ruhrgebiet, in which students are invited to undertake internships in companies and organizations for a specific period of time during their school year.

mix-realiTEA 1.11.25 - It's all about connecting people and building community

Andre left Essen to the other side of the world, with such a positive vision of this city because of us!

Thanks to the independent artistic scene efforts, from our colleagues, our neighbours, family and friends, Andre is back in Asunción, showcasing their one-month adventure during the @expyfest, (right now, live in Asunción!).

We want to thank all of those who supported in making Andre's time here such a success! (Also full of hand-made cookies and pastries! DANKE 💖🍪🍩)

We want to give special thanks to our residency host, the @kunsthausessen, their board members, specially to @sven.dirkmann and Kevin, to open their doors for our crazy passionate ideas + 500 kilos of equipment to temporaly transform the KHE Gästatelier into an immersive room.

Huge thanks to Feli! @feliflipsy for the Graphic Design of the MRtea and MOPP poster, all the signage for the event and all your energy to helping us on making it happen.

WEEK 4| ICPA-GZ & FCR RESIDENCY 2025 ANDRE ROLON, EXPYLAB 2024 WINNER

"EL GRANDE FINALE!"

Andre have been pushing the MOPP project further in the last week, advancing towards a new iteration of the project, utilizing game engines, a complex videomapping setup and all kinds of different platforms.

And on top of that Andre has been representing and working with FCR Team on all kinds of side projects, meeting people and spreading the word about their project mission:

Exploring the creative community and institutions at the "More Future" Event in Dortmund, held by @medienwerk.nrw , giving the chance to network with a lot of actors in the creative and cultural scene in NRW.

Helping us rock the installation from Jihye Kim, Witten Fellow 2024 @noendtotheroad_witten , at the Märkisches Museum Witten, bringing their unique personality and positive vibes to the venue, while installing a 270° projection mapping with us from scratch.

Hosting a large group of students from the renowned Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, lead by @yesimakdeniz, whom got a glimpse into the exciting workflow that is behind MOPP and showcasing the 5.1 mixdown of the freshly created soundscape.

Now, what is left for Andre is to prepare for the GRANDE FINALE: a relaxed session at their own MIXED REALITEA event, held at Kunsthaus Essen. But that is its own story!

WEEK 3 | ICPA-GZ & FCR RESIDENCY 2025 ANDRE ROLON, EXPYLAB 2024 WINNER

Alongside the development of a second iteration from Memorias de un Pasado Presente, the dynamic Andre has met Feli, our brand new FCR volunteer who is bursting with hands-on enthusiasm!

Feli is specialized in Media and Graphic Design, therefore she worked with Andre in the creation of the Graphic Style of the mix-realiTEA event, as well the "MOPP" project poster.

@feliflipsy brought the Swoosh Effect concept to our lives, and even though it's a bit tricky to pronounce, it perfectly captures the emotion that Andre is eager to share in "Mopp".

Andre is having a blast in Essen! They have been capturing the best moments with our 360 cameras and 3D scanning techniques, such as the delicious "pan de queso" made by @sven.dirkmann

Come by on Saturday 1.11.2025 at 17:00 at the @kunsthausessen and meet Andre in real life before they cross the ocean back on Sunday!

mixed-realiTEA 1.11.2025

Artist Andre Rolon presents the results of the ICPA-GZ & FCR 2025 artistic residency, a collaboration between the Paraguayan-German Cultural Institute Goethe Zentrum and the German institution Future Campus Ruhr, at the cultural centre Kunsthaus Essen.

A residency awarded to Andre Rolon as the grand prize during the EXPYLAB 2024 awards ceremony with the project ‘‘Memorias de un Pasado Presente".

Thanks to the ‘Movilidad 2025’ funds from the National Secretariat of Culture of Paraguay, and with the financial support of the ICPA-GZ, Andre Rolon travelled on 29th September to the central facilities of the FCR and the Kunsthaus in Essen.

"MOPP" is an immersive experience that invites us to inhabit the Plaza de los Desaparecidos, a space of remembrance that commemorates the victims of the authoritarian regime of dictator Alfredo Stroessner.

This project was originally conceived by Andre Rolon together with Angel Barreto, Ivan Ortiz and Nicolás Ríos during the three-week theoretical-practical residency of EXPYLAB in November 2024.

During the course of the residency, Andre continued with the conceptual, aesthetic and technical development of the project, now in its second iteration.

FCR is hosting the Andre, in association with the KHE, and supports their development process with its cutting-edge technology infrastructure, as well as its extensive knowledge and international network of experts.

WEEK 2 | ICPA-GZ & FCR RESIDENCY 2025
ANDRE ROLON, EXPYLAB 2024 WINNER

After an incredibly intensive first week of assembly and set-up, the opportunity arose for Andre to express their artistic soul through the creation of the soundtrack and storytelling for the second iteration of "Memorias de un Pasado Presente" (Memories of a Present Past).

This time, Andre continued developing their multidisciplinary skills and let their creativity run wild in our state-of-the-art FCR 5.1 Portable Sound Studio, VR headset to draw the path the audience will follow inside the 270° round-projection, and the chance to experiment sound through movement generation with the @sonic_moves App.

What does the future brings for the remaining weeks in the Immersive adventure of Andre at FCR's world?

WEEK 1 / ICPA-GZ & FCR RESIDENCY 2025
ANDRE ROLON, EXPYLAB 2024 WINNER

During the first week, Andre experienced in first person how we transform spaces for innovative immersive content creation with our own equipment and strong hands.

With Feli and Judy's huge help (@feliflipsy and @borsucek), we managed to move 500 kilos of equipment from Essen Innenstadt to Kunsthaus Essen in less than two days! Five people, two cars, one child and a dog were involved.

By the end of week one, we had set up a portable 5.1 sound studio and immersive room, ready to start rocking!

What will happen in week 2?
