A simple classic color pallet of black white and gold ( 24k gold leaf to reflect light in just the right way) …layered paint, wax and other melted materials…was all designed to regulate viewers minds and bodies…not stimulate.

Through contrast, repetition, and subtle variation, it gives the brain something it naturally seeks:

* rhythm
* points of return

Amazingly…this reduces cognitive load and creates a sense of ease—allowing the viewer to feel calmer, clearer, and more present within the space. How ‘bout that! Did you know art could be so powerful?

Thanks to all who came out to meet Lumie, the desert hopper of light! This piece was designed to bring people together and I was lucky enough to show Lumie at the Makers Arcade in downtown San Diego on Broadway Pier over the weekend —what fun to meet so many new friends, see familiar faces and hug beloved collectors—the conversations were moving, some brought tears and other heart filled joy! That’s the point of art—to connect and be moved ( one way or another).

Sending much love to you all! After this big event, I’m plum tuckered and will be resting and dreaming up the next instillation ✌️🙌.

Thank you so much to the village that made this dream a reality—my sis Karmel came down from Oregon, my husband and son worked tirelessly on instillation 💪🏾💪🏽, my friends Grace and Juli—this could not have been executed without you!!! A huge heartfelt gratitude to you!!!

This collaborative idea, of Dear World ( Lumie) and Dear Loved Ones (hosted by Pamala of Mourning Goods who is a transformative holistic grief coach) was one of the most impactful and inspiring collabs I’ve been a part of in a very long time! Who here loves lemons? As a California artist…This one carries a little California sun with it.

Created on handmade artist-grade paper using lemons, acrylic, heat, and layered mark-making. No brushes—just movement, texture, and a bit of unpredictability.

From a distance, it reads as something familiar.
Up close, it’s all rhythm, fragments, and color.

Here’s to the small stuff! A moment of inspiration this am…as an abstract artist my artistic inspiration usually comes from being in nature and observation.

🍌🌺 Recently I saw a drop of dew sitting in a banana blossom petal in my yard. The wind had picked up just enough to move the petal dust in a way that was truly mesmerizing.

Moving.
Round and round. Like our world. Like our lives.
Finding rhythm, pattern and points of return.

🌊 Sometimes the process becomes the piece.

This one I was playing with texture for added interest...pulling a sculptural element into a wall piece.

It started flat, uncertain… a little boring in my humble option.

And somewhere in that process, something shifted.

Painted canvas—cut apart, reworked, and woven back together.

The palette, still edgy, softened into ocean tones—Like literally looking down at the seafrom an aerial view where shore depths dictate color richness.

You see turquoise, sea-glass greens, deep blues, blacks, soft whites, and subtle golds inspired by flecks of sand.

The rhythm found its way.

Fragments became structure.
Texture became calm. Mixed media and natural fibers became interest.

What emerged is a piece designed to do something very simple:

Create a place for the mind to land...to come back to over and over again.

The woven pattern gives your eye somewhere to return—
a safe space to think, to dream, to be.

Like waves.
Like breath.

And over time… it becomes familiar.

Not just something you look at—
something you live with.

It’s been a wild ride to make “Dear World, Dear Loved One” come to life. Tuesday arrived, Wednesday, building the sections, Thursday, test run build at the house, Friday load in day, structural issues arise, family problem solving steps into action, Lumie is alive, Saturday booth setup, market is live, booth breakdown, Sunday booth setup up, market is live, holiday light parade of ships, booth breakdown & dismantling of Lumie 😭 So sad to see this magical piece fade…until the next project…see you soon!

@devorah_creates is a creative wild woman! Big ideas and lofty goals; I’m inspired by her everyday. She’s the most amazing sister.
