Vessel is a functional sculpture designed by J. Mina (@justjmina) and Madeline Carpentiere (@foxeline). Referencing their Filipino heritage, ‘Vessel’ is derived from a symbol originating from northern Philippines: ‘Lingling-o.’ Representing fertility, masculinity and femininity, Lingling-o are used as amulets, pendants, and talismans. Inspired by the symbol’s structure, ‘Vessel’ has two openings to hold living objects symbiotic with the materiality of the sculpture. Built from steel, ‘Vessel’ is inherently contradictory - hard and soft, masculine and feminine, natural and man made.

The installation features a suspended arrangement of 900 brunia heads and star anise, referencing the traditional Filipino ‘parol’ - a traditional lantern symbolizing faith, warmth, and light. Brunias themselves represent hope and resilience. Together, the installation is the artists’ investigation into their culture by way of physical imagery and representation.

Inspired by archaeology, Julia Belozertseva explores the boundary between the man-made and the natural. Drawing on her architectural background, she sought an artistic medium through which to express different facets of identity. Julia’s practice brings together an architectural sensibility and the language of ancient markings, patterns etched by human hands or shapes shaped by nature, chasing the deep connection to art she has carried since childhood.

Hollow Rocks is a series of ceramic pieces that echo forms carved over time by water or wind, reimagined in an organic yet abstract way. Their hollowness is a quiet reminder that every object holds a purpose, even one not yet fulfilled. Though each piece appears unintentional and natural, it carries the imprint of human instinct, a subtle reflection of our relationship with the world around us.

Visit us now at 92 Brick Lane for an opportunity to view and interact with the works!

Meet Joe Garcia, a ceramics artist whose work sits at the intersection of photography and sculpture. Through fireprinting, he transfers textured, pattern-driven images onto ceramic surfaces, transforming flat pictures into physical objects. His pieces draw on the patterns and textures found in nature, giving photography a new dimension of presence and touch.

During his journey through the film world, Joe found himself drawn to the idea of making images you could feel as much as see. Texture became central to his practice, the quality he felt most powerfully bridges a work and its viewer. But the flatness of the medium eventually pushed him toward ceramics, where he found the tactility his work had always been reaching for. The result is a body of work that asks what photography can become when it steps off the wall and into your hands.

Come visit us at Cafe Objets, where the art is local and the coffee is fresh.

Meet Joseph Carway @thinkitsover , one of our first Cafe Objets resident artists - a tattoo artist-turned-painter whose wood-panel works carry a deep, unmistakable sense of human form. With a distinctive approach rooted in folk art, his work spans themes of everyday life, relationships, social issues, and religion.

Carway’s technique creates a heightened sense of tactility through linework, gesture, and gaze; each scene feels at once playful and deeply lived-in. Rather than striving to break the mold, his work quietly questions how far the boundaries of two-dimensional space can stretch. Carway’s pieces are a permanent fixture at Cafe Objets, woven into the very fabric of the space.

Now on display at Café Objets, visit us to experience Carway’s work in person.
