Creating and presenting ‘Cage of Lilies’ has probably been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life so far.
This work unfolded over many seasons of reflection and becoming, and accompanied me through some of the hardest and most transformative times. I had to confront myself and my insecurities and alongside everything else life was bringing, it became the toughest challenge I’ve taken on.
And yet in the end, everything came together. It made sense to me and to my people, and the impact it had on those who witnessed it justified every struggle, every question and every moment of not knowing.
This work is designed for continuous growth, as it expands every time it is presented.
It wouldn’t exist though without the people who held me up through this journey and with that in mind I wanna share my deepest gratitude to:
@qanossonap who was present in every rehearsal composing a soundscape that was constantly being deconstructed and transformed alongside the piece itself
@xkristeena who not only created a delicate masterpiece of a costume but was also the best partner and assistant throughout this complex and demanding scenographic process
@siren_soma who gave light to the piece with deep understanding of its structure
@plustrentedeux9 , @lefteris_v & @roubinipa who showed up for me, helping to simulate the audience’s gaze, and knowing me deeply, we shared many meaningful conversations that unraveled the piece’s essence
@marispetroswan who gave me the gift of seeing the piece from the outside during the creative process and who captured it during the performances with his artistic eye, sensitivity, and intention
@onedaythiskid who contributed the program text and brought a thoughtful theoretical lens
@olga.bt who skillfully managed the production
all the people who came to see me because without their gaze, the work would remain incomplete
And finally, with deepest gratitude, @alekrammaster, who believed in my vision, welcomed me with open arms, and gave me the freedom to express myself fully and fearlessly. She held that space for me in the most generous way and I’m endlessly grateful.
