We are so proud to share that SAY participant Stephanie’s artwork will be featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and we’re giving you an exclusive interview with the artist herself! 🎨✨
Stephanie has been part of the SAY family for nearly 10 years, and watching her grow into the talented, creative young artist she is today has been an absolute joy. This is a monumental achievement, and she deserves every bit of the spotlight.
Watch now, and stay tuned for updates on when Steph’s work will be on display for the world to see.
Give it up for Stephanie! 👏
“Find every reason to accept someone, not except them.” 💙🎤 Listen to this incredibly powerful speech by comedian, advocate, and person who stutters @thedrewlynch! We were thrilled to honor him with the SAY: Hero Award at last month’s NYC Gala. Drew’s dedication to our community is helping build a world that truly listens, giving young people the courage to share their voices and stories.
Thank you, Drew! ✨
And that’s a wrap on this season of SAY: DC arts programming! 🎨👏✨ What a wonderfully magical year it’s been. This maker’s studio took on painting, printmaking, slime, collaging, and soooo much more. The list truly goes on! We loved seeing new and returning faces come through our doors each Saturday to build community, make life-long friendships, and express themselves freely with other young people who stutter. It’s a gift to see their creativity shine and confidence grow. Thank you to our participants, staff, volunteers, parents, and supporters for a terrific season! 💜
We’re thrilled to celebrate this culmination at SAY’s 2nd Annual DC Gala on May 28th at the Shakespeare Theatre Company: Klein Theatre. The SAY: DC kids will take the stage for an inspiring night of performances and community connection, all in support of SAY’s free and accessible programs.

This past weekend, we held our FIRST EVER end of the season showcase for SAY’s new “My Stutter Animation Project” — a program that I helped form with the aid of some animating skills I began cultivating back in 2020. Never did I imagine that six years later I would be bringing those skills into an environment of young children and teens who stutter, with the purpose of providing a creative outlet for them to explore their ideas, voices and authentic selves via animation.
In these films, everything that you see, every line of dialogue and turn of the plot, and every voice you hear comes from these young people (between the ages of 8 and 18, from all over the world). They get to illustrate their own characters and scenery, collaborate with their groups and assigned teaching artist to cultivate a story and script, and embody their characters through the most powerful thing they have: their voices, stutter and all.
What results is something that the little, stammering boy in me had only ever pined for. The ways in which their faces light up when they hear their voices come through these things they had previously put to paper, the recognition that ANYTHING is possible. And the fact that as an animator, I have the profound privilege of interpreting their magic into something they can be proud of — there’s nothing that compares.
Thank you, @sayorg, for trusting me and believing in me enough to meet these young people who stutter in such a unique and beautiful way, and for continuing to provide spaces that unite and empower them.
All that said — enjoy some moments from these films that will forever live rent-free in my head. 🦈🐷🥓🐶🐻🌲🦎🤖🦥
🎤 “I am the fighter, my stutter is the igniter. And my hero? It’s been inside all along.”
Happy National Stuttering Awareness Week! 💙 Watch SAY: DC Alum Laila bring to life a powerful poem written by SAY Alum & Teaching Artist @lexixxloss.
For more than 80 million people worldwide who stutter, including 5% of all children, expressing yourself freely isn’t always easy. That’s why SAY creates spaces where young people who stutter can speak, create, and share their stories with confidence and support.
Every voice deserves to be heard. Every story deserves to be told.
