Have you noticed subtle changes in memory, behaviour, or decision-making — in yourself or someone you love?

It might be nothing.

But it’s worth checking.

Two useful starting points:
• The Cognitive Quotient (CQ) test from Apollo Health.https://www.apollohealthco.com/know-your-cq/
• The Dementia Symptoms Checklist from the Alzheimer’s Society.Access via the Alzheimer's society website.

Don’t ignore the signs your brain might be giving you.

EVANTHEA Part 2: the brain tests improved. The blood markers and MRI stayed quieter.

In this preprint randomised trial, the precision-medicine group showed clearer gains than standard care on detailed computer-based cognition, including memory, planning, and thinking speed.

But most Alzheimer’s blood biomarkers did not clearly separate groups, and MRI brain-volume measures also did not show clear between-group differences over 9 months.

So the most honest read is: a real cognition and wellbeing signal, with a less clear “biology + scan” story so far.

If you want the calm, full unpacking (what changed, what didn’t, and the limitations) read the full blog : nutritionandthebrain.com/blog (link in bio).

As part of my client services, I provide an O2 ring to monitor oxygen saturation overnight. This is particularly important for those with cognitive impairment, following the Bredesen protocol. Don't risk low oxygen levels affecting your day - it's included in my client care 🫶

I’m now officially a Bredesen ReCODE Practitioner 🧠✨

ReCODE is all about identifying the drivers of cognitive decline in each individual — and then targeting those drivers with a personalised, precision-medicine plan. No generic advice. No waiting around for things to worsen. Actual intervention.

One of the most frustrating parts of my old memory-clinic role was telling people with memory concerns: “It’s not dementia yet. Come back in a year and we’ll reassess.”
Stop.
That approach doesn’t help anyone.

Now, I finally have the tools to support people before things progress — and just as importantly, to support people who already have a diagnosis, wherever they are on the journey. There is still plenty we can do.

I work across the Bredesen 7:

Nutrition

Exercise

Sleep optimisation

Stress management

Brain training

Detoxification

Targeted supplementation

Plus deep-dive testing, including genetics like APOE, advanced blood markers, and other investigations to work out what’s really driving the decline.

Most people don’t have one single cause. They have 10–12 contributors that need addressing — gut-driven inflammation, insulin resistance/pre-diabetes, chronic infections including tick-borne diseases… the list goes on.

When you find the causes, you can change the trajectory.

If you (or someone you care about) is noticing changes in memory — or already has a diagnosis — don’t sit and wait for another year to pass.

Reach out. Early action makes all the difference 💪

My Story

I knew I wanted to become a nutritional therapist when I was still in secondary school. But I was advised that before specialising, I should first build a strong foundation in healthcare — so that’s exactly what I did.

I trained as a nurse at the University of the West of England and completed my placements at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Early on, I discovered two things: I loved working with older adults, and I had a real passion for research.

Once I qualified, I spent three years working on the care of older people wards before stepping into a dual role as a research nurse and memory clinic nurse in Bath. I stayed in that role from 2007 to 2023 — and I still support their clinical trials work on a self-employed basis today.

Working so closely with people living with dementia shaped everything for me. So when the time finally came to choose my nutrition specialism, it was an easy decision — dementia support and prevention.

I’m now a Nutritional Therapist specialising in cognitive health, and I’m currently over halfway through my training in the Bredesen Protocol — a cutting-edge approach to preventing and reversing cognitive decline.

Supporting people in later life has always been my purpose. Now, I get to do it using food, science, and personalised care — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Here are the ways I help people take control of their brain health:

🎤 Talks & Workshops — for community groups, workplaces or events
🎪 Information Stalls — invite me to your event or market
👥 1:1 Support — through my personalised dementia nutrition programme
🍽️ 4-Week MIND Diet Course — learn & apply step by step

Day 16 of keto for Jake and me 🍝
We’re swapping carbs for veggies, giving our guts a reset, and feeling the difference.

Keto isn’t just about weight — it’s about brain health, reducing inflammation, and building resilience. Being in ketosis flips the switch between growth and energy-making, keeping our bodies strong and our minds sharp.

Curious what a week of keto actually looks like? Drop me a comment and I’ll send you our 7-day meal plan — created by me, with 5 years of keto experience.
