Today, the LA City Council voted to ban LAPD's practice of pretextual stops, which has caused so much damage to Black and brown communities in our city. John Kim detailed some of the damage and celebrated the courage of the decision. Now, the Police Commission must follow through.

🌱 Seeds of Unity Fest reminded us that South LA deserves greater access to green spaces, healthy neighborhoods, and environmental resources that support our community for generations to come. 💚

The impact of this festival is immediate — families left with plants, resources, knowledge, and new connections they can use right away.

We’re rooted in a strong, resilient community, collectively advocating for a greener, healthier South LA. We’re not just imagining a greener South LA — we’re building it together. 🌿

25 years of CEJA means over two decades of meaningful collaboration with our member and partner organizations. Today, we’re uplifting SCOPE: Strategic Concepts in Organizing & Policy Education. SCOPE builds grassroots power to create social and economic justice for low-income, female, immigrant, black, and brown communities in Los Angeles.

“We initially joined CEJA to build power across the state with other environmental justice organizations. South Los Angeles is the second most polluted region in the country due to historical and racist practices like redlining and infrastructure disinvestment. Our communities are burdened with toxic industries, neighborhood oil drilling, and other environmental hazards. This is something our membership deeply cares about—they wanted to be involved and to coordinate with other incredible groups doing this work here in Los Angeles and across the state.”

Two months ago, Brian Jointer, a father of boys, told #LACityCouncil members of his harrowing encounter with LAPD.

Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the full council is set to decide whether to ban pretextual stops like the one Brian and his sons endured.

This May Day, we honor the legacy of resistance by continuing it. On May 1, 2026, workers, students, and families across the country will rally, march, and take action to demand a country that puts workers — the true architects and runners of this nation — over billionaires. Many of us are refusing business as usual: No School. No Work. No Shopping. ♥️💪🏽👩🏿‍🌾
