New episode out. South Africa. Defender Trophy Selections.

We’ve been flying BASE crews around the world to cover the Defender Trophy Selections; regional events where competitors face two days of tough wilderness challenges for a shot at the global final.

This is the Camel Trophy reborn, a legendary overland adventure race. Twenty years on, it’s back. And we’ve been lucky enough to help bring that vision to life for JLR.

So far we’ve put crews on the ground across the South African savannah, the mountains of North America and the jungles of Taiwan, managing everything from location filming through to post production across YouTube and socials. Specialist off-road vehicle filming, remote access, working at height, underwater, proximity to wild game. The kind of production challenges BASE thrives on.

At its heart though, this is human storytelling. Real people. Extreme places. High stakes.Taiwan episode airs next. #defender

How do you film an advert on a train? A lot of greenscreen, rotoscoping and screen tracking! This ad for Northern Rail was especially fun for us as it featured a variety of animated illustrations that float, swish and fly throughout. Can you spot which ones are 2D and which ones are 3D?

It's Fix It In Post Friday, have a peek into our creative process!

You may have seen the two videos we worked on last week, celebrating McLaren's special new livery for the Monaco Grand Prix in honour of Ayrton Senna.

With the cars being shot using a circular bullet time rig using 75 individual cameras, there was clean up required to paint out the floor and any visible equipment in the background. We were also tasked with recreating one of Senna's most iconic races, by adding rain to a 3D environment that would give the impression of being frozen in time as the camera raced past. We also took up the challenge to find new ways of incorporating archive footage - adding it into camera lenses, TV screens, and reflections on Senna's iconic helmet.

It's Fix It In Post Friday!

The iconic alton towers logo gets a Cbeebies makeover!

You may have seen our ads recently for CBeebies Land at Alton Towers. To make this dramatic push through the logo, we looked at classic fantasy influences like Harry Potter and the Warner Bros logo.

The cloudscape was made in Cinema 4D using volume objects, but as you can see a lot can happen when you move into the compositing stage, including turning the whole sky pink!

We also collaborated with animation house @blue_zoo who provided us with a special animation of the Go Jetter's JetPad.

Chessington World of Jumanji is back on our screens this week so we're giving you a sneak peak at how we brought this to life!

The final shot of the ad needed a refresh, so we expanded the boundaries of the frame using photoshop, and split it into 3D layers inside after effects to create a dramatic aerial zoom through layers of smoke.

Add in some sky to create a sense of the horizon and there you have it!
