Conceived to sit alongside the canvas, the cabinet mirrors its palette of light and dark browns, from soft blonde hues to deep umber tones, expressed through 20,000 individual ribbons of custom-dyed rye straw marquetry. Every available internal and external surface is covered with hand-laid straw marquetry, producing a shimmering, faceted surface that shifts with the light.

That first properly hot summer’s day always brings me back flashes of memories. Snippets in my mind of all my summers past. Cool mornings in the garden before the heat of the day, coffee with ice, reading in bed, those first tomatoes freshly picked, salty swims, sticky night walks and dinners under eaves with lots of fizzy drinks and basil salad and jazz that’s so cliché, but just so right.
