Spring 2023 odds and ends.

Last year, following @zorra_skates, I did 33 tricks for my 33rd birthday. This year I challenged myself to film 34 NEW tricks. I don’t think it would have been possible without learning so many new tricks for #hbgos22, and from all my skate friends. Especially: stalls from @greenwheelypop, slides/grinds from @psychonautskates and @kid_ace, and handplants from @tweed_killls. And ty to my skate fam @3riversreform.

These were filmed in a single manic 2-hour session at @switchandsignalskatepark with help from @shelbitch_skates.

Oh ya, and the new loadout from @wickedskatewear_pgh: @bont_parkstars + @suregriprollerskates + @huckskatesupply + @cibcrew + @wildbonesofficial.

It's been a cold winter. On Saturday, Feb 28, thaw the frost at HEARTH. Featuring balearic beats, live-performed techno, and steamy bass, KINDLING and Troy Hill's Intimacy Lounge (@intimacyloungepgh ) will melt you to the core.

KINDLING is a collective of musicians, artists, and technicians setting Pittsburgh's underground ablaze. DJ/musicians Luna Peaks, A Pup Named Rosy, and Heather Harper join visual artists Emmy Zero and Otherground to build a haven in the pyre. Legendary sound engineer Alex Icon keeps the coals glowing all night long.

Happy 13th anniversary to this clip from Pier 62 in NYC from Summer 2011. I didn’t even know it existed but a few months ago I got in touch with @irenesk8s and she dug it up.

The quad park skating scene was so small back then. Anyone else you met was instantly a buddy.

I started skating with @concussionrollerderby in Winter 2010 and started heading out to parks with @skeighty_8_legs and some of the @emeraldcityrd skaters. That summer I moved back east. Caught this session in NYC, dropped in on a @gothamderby practice, and then headed off to CMU.

I hung up my skates when I learned Pittsburgh only had a WFTDA league 🙃. I visited Boyce once with a mystery friend that @irenesk8s sent my way, and that was it. 2014 I had jaw surgery, went to grad school, and didn’t touch my skates for another seven years.
