Tim Kerr
Take photos Do art Play music BREATHE

Last Friday 5.15.26.Hanging out with Tim @movetk and Beth Kerr.So much great art and such good vibes.
When I arrived in Austin in the fall of 1981, The Big Boys might have been the first Austin show that I saw, and over the next three or so years, they were probably the band I saw play the most.In 1984, Tim scored the soundtrack to “Late Air”, the film project that Lee Daniel (cinematographer for Slacker), Bill Anderson (guitar in Poison 13), and I made for our Film One final project in the UT Austin Film Department.
So this last Friday, I brought my one-very-worn-VHS-copy of Late Air over to Tim’s house, and with some gear provided by his pal Boris, we were able to watch it together.Neither one of us had seen it for decades!Fun!
Here are a few photos:
1) Tim standing next to the “Voodoo Box”. Touring bands coming through Austin would stay with the Kerrs and leave curious items.I’m told that someone left Darby Crash’s bootlace in there somewhere.
2) Super cool drawing by ‘zine artist (and Whitney Biennial artist) Chris Johanson.Do zoom in on the details—very fun! @chrisjohansonart
3) Tim’s Lord High Fixers guitar
4) Sweet print of Tim and one of his favorite dogs by Japanese graphic artist Yusuke Hanai @hanaiyusuke

For decades, the story of Austin punk pioneers the Big Boys has existed somewhere between myth, memory, skate videos, photocopied flyers, and the stories passed down between generations of musicians, skaters, artists, and weird kids trying to find their place. Now, after nearly ten years in the making, that story finally arrives on screen with appearances from legends like Ian MacKaye, Steve Albini, Fred Armisen, and so many more.
You Can Color Outside the Lines, a new feature documentary about the legendary Austin band, will premiere June 21st at 29th Street Ballroom. Two screenings followed by a Q+A with members are scheduled for 11:00am and 2pm as part of Go Skate Day in collaboration with No Comply Skate Shop!

When Jeff Newton asked if we ( Big Boys), wanted to do a Zorlac band board , we were really excited. Chris, Biscuit ,and I together came up with a shape and art for the board.Biscuit found the two headed baby skeleton in a medical book. Chris drew the sacred heart because that’s what we were all drawing on our boards at the time. I did the banner. To this day there are people that think Pusshead did the art . He did not ( big smile) When I got mine , I rounded the nose more and cut in “ stingers” ,which then altered the tail a bit. Kids would write Jeff and ask if they could get one like mine because they had seen me at Pflugerville skating mine. To celebrate the release of You Can Color Outside The Lines ( Big Boys doc) Madrid is making 83 , which is the year they came out. BIG smile !
