Meet little Nyakabara, meaning marked one in the local dialect due to the white cuff around her right arm. She is one of the rarest of our characters with about 1000 mountain gorillas left in the wild. You can see her and her family on @bbctwo this Wednesday at 9pm #animalbabies and watch how she learns about the world around her. It was a privilege to be able to spend a short amount of time with this family and get to see all of their different personalities, from toddlers having tantrums through to stroppy teenagers, this was one of the best filming experiences I have had. 🇺🇬⛰️🦍

Meet Dragonfly... A keen eyed camera assistant who liked to make sure we were in focus while using us a look out post to scan her surroundings for any potential predators. Check her and her family out on BBC1 tonight for a special #Dynasties episode.

This is the 4th film within the Guardians series on BBC Earth (link below). It tells the incredible story of the rangers in South Africa's Kruger National Park as well as the tireless work with Care For Wild. Both of these organisations have rangers and carers that are risking not only their own lives, but those of their families as poaching becomes ever more sophisticated and violent.

It features Kathy Dreyer who is Kruger's first female head ranger. It also features Lucas who cares for Riri, an orphaned baby at the centre for Care For Wild. Felicia, who is Care For Wild's anti poaching unit team leader is also in this film explaining how they not only protect the rhino on the ground, they are also out in the communities, educating people on the importance of protecting rhino and hopefully guiding the rangers of the future.

This film was tough to organise as there was a horrific increase in poaching in the area at the start of the year but it is a film that I am proud to have been a part of. As with all of the episodes in this series, the work of nature's guardians is often undervalued and overlooked but this episode really brings home the dangers that they face and the risks they take when it comes to their own family's safety.

This film was made possible through @unitedforwildlife , @princeandprincessofwales, @zandland and of course @krugernationalpark and @careforwild

SAVE OUR SPRAT (SOS): The Countdown is on!

Only 86 days until sprat trawling season restarts in September. We have joined the 'Save our Sprat' Bantry team, part of a growing movement along Ireland’s Atlantic coast. We need your help to amplify our message!

We're launching a social media campaign to highlight the devastating impact of current sprat fishing practices on our marine ecosystem. It will feature infographics, video clips, educational posts, personal stories, and clear calls to action.

Our ask: Not a ban, but an immediate moratorium on pair trawling for sprat. This allows for a crucial scientific study to establish a baseline understanding of sprat biomass, vital for sustainable management plans.

Sprat numbers have crashed, impacting small-scale fishermen and whale-watching tourism. This unsustainable practice, due to poor inshore fishery management, is forcing whales and dolphins to seek food elsewhere. Ireland boasts world-class marine wildlife; this moratorium is the first step to protect it.

More info: www.saveoursprat.ie

We're calling on our passionate network! Many of us joined this industry to do good for the natural world. We need your help to piece this campaign together. Can you assist with:

It's Friday! Which means a new Guardians film has been released (link below). This film was a whirlwind for me to produce when I joined @zandland . A few years ago, I worked with the incredible @munmundhalaria and when asked to come onto this production, I wanted to make something on snow leopards- so I reached out to her and this is the product. Munmun did a fantastic job directing this film and it is a beautiful piece of work.
The film covers the work by Kalzang, @ncf.india alongside some of the local women and the Himashral Pradesh Forestry Service as they monitor the 'ghosts of the mountains' (snow leopards). This work has resulted in over 50 scientific publications and footage never seen before. Human wildlife conflict for livestock as well as climate change are the main threats to these animals but the tireless work by these mountain guardians is helping bring understanding to this elusive species and this fragile ecosystem.
Link to the film- give it a watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-D0P3kDrB0

Meet Alex - our Glaswegian friend who moved to the #BearaPeninsula 20 years ago this year. Over the next few months we are going to be filming with Alex at his wildlife sanctuary, producing a short documentary on this wild soul. From boxing with foxes to carrying swift chicks in his pockets, Alex dedicates his every waking moment to animals and he has saved thousands over the years and it is such a joy to film with him.

In 2021 I got the opportunity to lead a shoot in the DRC to film Bonobos for the @natgeo 'Rainforest Queens' episodeand I loved it so much I went back again to another location in 2022. It is hands down one of the most brutal filming experiences I will ever have. Trekking up to 25km through swamps and dense vegetation, these great apes made you work for it! Over the two shoots I worked closely with so many people from producer @ilaira , the co-ordinator extrordinaires @mirandapincott @aureliaeros ,cinematographers @mkshooots @miguelwillis , my old uni friend @tania.escobar.ori and Declan Burley. Our health and safety was in the trusted hands of Trevor Smith and Simon Reed and last but by no means least, the incredible camp managers @valou.voyage and Tommy Manzoni.
I want to thank all of the amazing guides and staff at both camps that kept us safe in the field and got us into the best positions in a very tricky environment.
