To start 2024 with intention, we’re sharing our community commitments that guide our work and the culture we create. Our core values are centered on care, reciprocity, and regenerative connections.
In alignment with these guiding principles, we ask that all volunteers and people dropping off food scraps wear a mask to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Free masks will be available during all of our drop off times 😷 Thank you for participating in collective care.

Long Beach Community Compost fully supports Palestinian liberation and condemns the U.S. backed genocide carried out by the settler-colonial, apartheid state of Israel.
As soil builders and community builders, we are grounded in our values of respect for the land and the people who nourish it. We are deeply aware of the interconnectedness between us all, including the systems of oppression that harm our communities.
Environmental justice teaches us that a people’s wellbeing and the health of the land they live on are directly connected. A military occupation makes both of these impossible.
In this most recent assault, over 20,000 tons of bombs paid for by the US have not only destroyed Palestinian lives, they have also contaminated the soil and groundwater in ways that will last for generations.
White phosphorus has poisoned the atmosphere and is expected to fall as acid rain in the coming winter.
Israel has long prevented Palestinians from tending to their agricultural lands, going so far as to uproot an estimated 800,000 olive trees since 1967.
We cannot ignore our obligation as residents on occupied Tongva land to advocate for the return of land to Indigenous caretakers, whether in Palestine or within the U.S. empire. Indigenous resistance to colonization is always justified.
Palestine is freeing us - freeing us from our complicity, from the imperialist and colonial systems that are at play all around us.
We reject the idea that anti-zionism is a form of anti-semitism. We understand that zionism is used as a political tool to enact the violent colonization of the Palestinian people - harming anyone who resists, including Jews.
We believe “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free”, and that one people’s freedom doesn’t require the oppression of another. Liberation for one is true liberation for all.

A BIG THANK YOU to our community for helping paint our shed! Painting together was a celebration of the community that makes compost happen, from humans to crawly critters.
🐛 Shoutout to composter, gardener and arts educator @meghanrrhoades for designing and guiding this mural process from start to finish!
🍦 And thank you to @pedrosicecream for popping up and helping us all stay cool in the heat.
We’re still adding some finishing touches, so next time you drop off food scraps be sure to check it out. Thanks for being part of this ecosystem with us!
