I’ll be so honest and say that I never expected to like this show as much as I did. Between the constant audience engagement and the history being shared I cannot imagine having not seen GIRL DOLLS! 🎬💃🏽💃🏼

The set was everything from the moment we walked in, and the actual American Girl dolls along with the band brought the nostalgia the sold out crowd needed.

One thing the show did well especially was let us see the realities of how even consumerism demand impacts our perception and thus behavior/ actions, and hearing it in this “dramatic reenactment” was perfect. It’s loud and clear that racism and the prejudices among people are relevant in more places than we even realize — looking at the way the American Girl Dolls have evolved (or not, tbh) over the years!

I really want to thank @fringearts Arts for bringing this production to the city, as well as the @beardedladiescabaret LadiesCabaret because it was necessary. And if you didn’t see it, I’m sorry for you! So stepping into GIRL DOLLS: The American Musical at FringeArts, presented with The Bearded Ladies Cabaret, felt like opening a piece of my childhood all over again—but this time, with grown-woman perspective.

GIRL DOLLS: The American Musical is a hilarious, nostalgic, and sharp new musical diving into America’s favorite doll franchise, girlhood, identity, and the stories we grew up with. Created and performed by Jackie Soro and Pax Ressler, it blends original songs, comedy, and 90s nostalgia into something that’s funny, interactive, and just a little too real.

It had me laughing, reflecting, and lowkey questioning everything I thought I knew about those dolls 👀

I haven’t had this much fun at a musical in a long time! Pax and Jackie are absolute stars as they dive into girlhood and nostalgia through song and storytelling. GIRL DOLLS is running now through May 17 at Fringe Arts!

Thoughts: This show is about a multigenerational family owned hair salon and the family lore and legends and love that make this place up. There’s laughs and cute moments maybe even a jump scare. There’s only five of these shows left and you do not want to miss it!
