Met Gala: The Ciara Nefertiti Story.

BTS of the Blumera Simurgh & Hummingbirds Brass Mini U Horseshoe Clutch that @ciara carried to the 2026 Met Gala.

This bag is so special. It is a hand-carved work of he(art). More than a bag, it is a large piece of functional jewelry.

It tells the story of the birds’ journey to the Simurgh, based on Attar’s Conference of the Birds and my mother Laurie Blum’s painting by the same name. I traced my mother’s brushstrokes and guided Pak Mangku’s hands in our temple atelier. He carved directly into my mom’s lines, bringing the Simurgh and Hummingbirds to life.

The Simurgh represents the mythical bird of God who the birds are on their journey back to: their true divine self.

The words of Meher Baba live inside and carry a high vibration: “To penetrate into the essence of all being and significance and to release the fragrance of that inner attainment for the guidance and benefit of others, by expressing, in the world of forms, truth, love, purity and beauty. This is the sole game which has any intrinsic and absolute worth. All other happenings, incidents and attainments in themselves can have no lasting importance.”

Friday night I dreamt of you. Your fragrance remains with me. I can still feel your presence. I dreamt we were together and I said, “look mom, it’s us!” I had found baby photos of you and me - you were a young mom and I was a baby. It was so sweet.

In my dreams, I’m always so grateful you’re there. It’s like I subtly know that I’ve lost your physical form and I savor every second with you in these dreams. The dreams aren’t often but when they come, I soak up every second that we are together again.

Today I did a Mother’s Day pop up at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara Santa Barbara in your honor. I told everyone who visited that this was my homage to you; my love song to you. I had the first prints of the scarves I made of your paintings. I made them in Lake Como, Italy and they are simply divine. Your hues glisten in the soft vibrant silk and Meher Baba’s words border your illustrious paintings.

When I walked into the @ritzcarltonbacarasb yesterday, I was struck by the gorgeous snapdragons and was immediately taken back to the early days when we would play with snapdragons’ mouths and talk to each other. You planted those snapdragons for me in the lobby yesterday.

I love you today and always. I’m so grateful for all you’ve given me both in form and out of form. You live on in my work and in my heart. Forever and always.
