Will Alba is a first year MFA student in Print Media. After completing his BFA at Concordia University he completed the Tamarind Institute Printer Training Program, he is pursuing a career print media education. His work is inspired by his childhood in Bogota, influenced by graffiti, advertisement poster spam, and protest art. Will mostly uses lithography and woodblock relief printing. Working through traditional fine art print methods, Will is also interested in the perceived contrast between high and low art. In his practice traditional print practices are used to produce high quality prints to spam as wheatpasted posters. His practice grapples with themes of identity, religion and solidarity.

Will Alba est un étudiant de premier an, fessant son MFA en médias imprimés. Après avoir complété son BFA à l’Université Concordia, il a fait le Programme d’Entrainement d’Imprimant (PTP) au Tamarind Institute. Il poursuit ses études avec l’objectif de travailler comme enseignant dans le domaine des médias imprimés. Ses œuvres sont inspirés par son enfance à Bogota, influencé par le graffiti, l’affichage publicitaire et l’art de proteste. Will utilise principalement la lithographie et la gravure en bois. Travaillant en méthodes traditionnelles d’impression de beaux-arts, Will s’intéresse au contraste perçu entre les beaux-arts et l’art populaire. Dans sa pratique d’artiste les méthodologies des beaux-arts s’appliquent pour créer des travaux d’haute qualité pour ensuite les placarder sur les murs comme une affiche. Ses travaux adressent plusieurs thématiques, d’entre elles, l’identité, la religion et la solidarité.

One of my prints from my independent study this year. Very proud of this work. It's a continuation from my previous works using similar abstract shapes. The shapes are heavily inspired by Charles Burns' "Black Hole" and the aura/background element is inspired by Latin-American religious imagery.
