How to use a Sharpie Chisel Tip marker to mimic brush strokes:

For righties, point the tip toward the upper left and pull the nib downward to create heavy stems. Then rotate the marker 90 degrees clockwise in your hand and use the tip to make light upstrokes.

Turn your entire hand 45 degrees clockwise to create heavy horizontal cross-strokes, and the same amount counterclockwise for left-leaning diagonals, like the leg of the “k” in “Marker!”

Lefties, mirror the marker grip and hand positioning.

My go-to markers for making brush casual letters:

✍️ If you want thick and juicy strokes, try a Sharpie Brush marker. The permanent ink tends to bleed, but gets close to actual brush marks.

✍️ Although Faber-Castell's Pitt Artist Pen Big Brush is a mouthful, the marker makes soft strokes with plump, round terminals.

✍️ For tight and crispy letters, use a Tombow Dual Brush Pen. The pointed tip tends to fray, but their price and availability is tough to beat.

✍️ My Sharpie Chisel Tip marker started to dry up, but fortunately had enough juice to lay down sharp, brush-like strokes.
