TURBINE ANGEL

Most of you know me as an editor, but I’ve been quietly working on my own film over the last 6 years. There’s been many versions of it, dating back to my time at CalArts, but as the story changed, so did the film.
I’m overjoyed to announce that Turbine Angel, my debut short film as a director, is finally screening… at @braindeadstudiosfairfax nonetheless. I’ll be showing two other works, all part of the same spiritual trilogy. These pieces are somewhere between documentary and narrative, each one focused on a particular region of the rural American Midwest.
Join us on Monday, October 13th, 8PM at @braindeadstudiosfairfax for a night of experimental films. Free @turbinepost merch will be available on a first come first serve basis, and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to @farmaid supporting family farms. A post-screening reception out back will follow!

Under the threat of demolition, a decaying Midwestern farmhouse and its sole keeper, 91-year old Lois Constable, awaken a spirit from the past.
The centerpiece of a Midwest Trilogy, Turbine Angel weaves nearly 70 years of footage together to create a portrait of decaying family farms in the American Midwest. Starring my real family, Turbine Angel lives somewhere between a fictional ghost story and sociopolitical documentary.

One day my parents had an idea. They gave me a little rubber bubble bee, with squishy eyes that popped out when you squeezed it. “Every time you’re scared,” they said, “put this in your pocket, squeeze it, and think ‘bee brave.’”
And slowly but surely, it worked: “bee brave.” That mantra carried me through my childhood, through teenagerdom in Chicago, and of course, through the last decade plus here in LA.
My 20s were filled with a lot of trial and error…. Non stop grinding, Saturn return, etc etc. But as the dust settles I feel nothing but gratitude. I’m so proud of these last 11 years in this city, and especially of what we’ve begun with @turbinepost.
Anywho, it’s been a wonderful last few months and in so many ways, I feel like my life is just starting.
ps go wish my actual twin brother @kobatros a happy birthday.
