Follow director and cinematographer Patrick Cady as he recalls a day in the life of shooting the popular streaming series, Bosch: Legacy. 🎥

🎬How do you shoot eight scenes and eight pages in a day? He’ll examine how being creative in the coverage of a smaller scene bought the whole crew enough time to pull off more complicated scenes. He’ll provide a window into the process: from the tech scout to the shot list. Learn the tricks and effort it takes to pull off a successful shoot day.

📚 Continue the experience on campus in Framing the Narrative (Aug 3-7, 2026), a one-week intensive for cinematographers, directors, and visual storytellers who want to use the camera with greater intention.

Had to sneak this in before the end of the year!25 years ago I was very surprised to find myself with so many cinematographers that I adored and respected.I still feel the same way when I get to catch up with them in person! Many have also made the move to directing, and I hope they love it as much as I do!I am so grateful for getting to do this for a living, and just now having visited the rural countryside of my childhood, I am reminded by how much I thought getting to tell stories the way we do was a very … very long shot. Here’s wishing all the fellow dreamers (do we ever stop?) a creative and prosperous 2026!!!!!
(Apologies if I missed any tags!)

In case my post yesterday was too mysterious, I was super happy to get to chat with the wonderful Alice Brooks, ASC about not just the technical aspects of shooting a massive musical, but also her approach to creating a team of creatively motivated folk that are all working to make a story. The conversation is live on youtube, look for "Shotdeck: shot talk" and I'll include the link in the comments.

In this Clubhouse Conversations episode, cinematographer Kasper Tuxen, DFF @kaspertuxen joins interviewer Patrick Cady, ASC @pcadyasc to break down his work on Sentimental Value @sentimentalvaluefilm , a family drama from director Joachim Trier. Tuxen discusses shaping a visual language inspired by Nordic light and Tarkovsky, balancing realism and poetry through handheld work and varied film stocks, and crafting key sequences in the theater, on a train, and on Deauville Beach. He also details how in-camera effects, bleach bypass, and evolving palettes helped convey decades of emotional change, grounding the entire approach in empathy and collaboration.

Friends old and new. @pcadyasc Patrick Cady as nice and talented as they come as a DP, director and producer and Juju Green aka @straw_hat_goofy who has taken the podcasting world by storm, a hard working brotha whom Tom Cruise and Ryan Coogler have on speed dial for behind the scenes featurettes!
