Work for RMHC documenting the Collins’ family’s story. They stayed 130 nights at RMHC Ottawa after Ryann’s diagnosis with a rare form of leukemia. The support RMHC provides can be absolutely pivotal in helping families through the challenges a diagnosis like this brings, as it does for countless other families across the globe with a similar story to Ryann’s. This one is her story.
Thank you to the crew, creative partners, and of course the staff and families at RMHC and CHEO in supporting us on this project!

EP2 - Resilience
DP work for @theinternationalmotors
I remember worrying as we were prepping for this how we would visually capture the context of a natural disaster well after hurricane Helene. It was 3 months since it had hit, and long since had it left the news cycle.
In the end, I think we were all shocked at how bad things still were. In some areas, everywhere we pointed the camera there was destruction; some scar in the landscape marking where an aberrant and furious Mother Nature had stepped. Flattened trees lined the riverbanks, or piled up like fortified thickets. The place had turned inside out. Tangled in the branches were kitchen appliances, clothing, mattresses, and sometimes cars, while cold wind passed through broken windows and shattered walls unabated.
This has to be one of the most resilient and supportive communities I’ve seen. You could hear drills and hammering as snow fell from the sky, bringing with it the difficult winter ahead. This was home, and they knew of no other place that went by that name. There was so much story here to tell, but this is a small piece of it.

BTS & some before/afters from a shoot for International Motors and the team at @ajaxcreative_
1. A prescribed burn in the woods around Foresthill. Conducted to reduce fuel for wildfires and lower the risk of something as large as 2021’s Caldor Fire from happening again. Although a reminder of the constant threat of wildfires in the region, scenes like this allowed us to capture footage that appeared to show the aftermath of fires. Smoke from the prescribed burns would drift through barren and blackened trees left behind from previous wildfires.
2. We shot this in another area scarred by fires. The way the trees had fallen created this perfect arrangement around Rachel as she surveyed the landscape.
3. The insanity of travel shoots. @accalv and I had to do the first leg of the flying on our own, which meant hauling a majority of the gear before we could link up with the rest of the team.
4. Rachel in Lake Tahoe area after placing the truck to be loaded with logs.
5. @jared_galley playing ranch hand.
6. My nerve shredding rigging work. No key grip on this shoot to double check mine and Calvin’s work. Hit record and lost feed after 20m, but it ended up being one of my favorite shots.
7. Either a self portrait or the last known image of Nick Pallone.
8. The resulting shot, no exile required.
9. More rigging…
10. And the resulting shot.
11. My goodness, more rigging with @jared_galley and @_mattlday . This time a GoPro attached to a claw that would pick up tree trunks in 2’s and 3’s.
12. The same dudes and me in some kind of Sasquatch pose prepping the drone.
13. The drone shot, excellent work by op @_mattlday
14. Waiting for the right amount of pink sunrise and cool fog.
15. Final image.
16. Hanging out with the horses. Actually this one is a shy pony.
17. Probably my favorite shot of all. Not perfect, but exactly the moment we were looking for. We had all this material of the horses on this beautiful foggy morning but no way to tie it to the story, until one of them, hearing the truck leaving, turned around to watch.
18. Galley and I planning a scene.
19. The shot we got.
20. The most cooperative dog ever. Gold star.
Good times.

Gold star.
Good times.

Had a great time making this last November! It was the quickest turnaround I’ve ever experienced — from idea to broadcast in just one month. It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing Toronto talent and crew, whose passion, experience, and efficiency brought it all together. And of course, a special thanks for the Canadian friendliness. Thank you all!
